Freelance Tactile Interpreter (Onsite Contract)
We are seeking a qualified Freelance Tactile Interpreter to provide comprehensive communication access for a DeafBlind individual at social services facilities. This is an onsite, contract-based position requiring exceptional proficiency in touch-based communication systems and a strong commitment to professional ethics.

Key Responsibilities
- Direct Interpretation: Deliver fluent, real-time communication using Tactile American Sign Language (TASL), hand-over-hand interpreting, or tracking methods as required by the client.
- Environmental Description: Convey vital visual and situational context, including spatial layouts, room movements, speaker identities, facial expressions, and emotional tones.
- Professional Collaboration: Coordinate smoothly with facility staff, case managers, and team interpreters when needed, to ensure a seamless service environment.
- Ethical Standards: Adhere strictly to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct, maintaining absolute confidentiality regarding client identity and case details.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Fluency: Demonstrated high proficiency in Tactile ASL and a strong understanding of Pro-Tactile principles.
- Certification: Active Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification, National Interpreter Certification (NIC), or equivalent state-level licensure.
- Professional Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of professional interpreting experience, with specific documented success working with DeafBlind individuals.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to maintain physical focus and manual dexterity during prolonged hands-on interpreting sessions.
- Background Check: Must clear a standard government or agency background screening required for public human services facilities.
