Role: CVOR Surgical Technologist
Location: Houston, TX
Position: Full Time + Benefits
Must Have:
+ Must a Certified Surgical Tech through the National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or + National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Please include candidate CST# and expiration date.
+ Must have at least one year, to date, of CVOR Certified Surgical Technician experience.
+ Must have an updated resume - job history dates and units worked in must be accurate.
Responsibilities:
1. Operating Room Preparation
- Prepare and maintain a sterile surgical environment

Set up the operating room with specialized cardiac surgical instruments and equipment

Ensure availability of heart-lung machine supplies and vascular instruments
-
Check functionality of surgical equipment before procedures
- Establish and maintain strict sterile technique throughout surgery
-
Monitor for any breaks in sterility and take corrective action immediately

Perform surgical hand scrubbing, gowning, and gloving
- Pass instruments, sutures, and supplies to the surgeon and surgical team
-
Anticipate surgeon’s needs during complex cardiovascular procedures
-
Handle delicate instruments used in open-heart and vascular surgeries
- Assist with cardiopulmonary bypass procedures (supporting perfusion setup)

Handle grafts, vessels, and prosthetic devices carefully

Prepare and manage supplies for procedures like:

Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG)
-
Valve repair/replacement
-
Aneurysm repair
- Operate and assist with:
-
Surgical lasers
-
Endoscopic equipment
-
Monitoring devices
-
Ensure proper handling of high-tech cardiovascular instruments
- Perform accurate counts of instruments, sponges, and needles
-
Ensure nothing is retained inside the patient
- Assist with proper patient positioning on the operating table

Help with skin prep and draping

Ensure patient safety and comfort prior to surgery
- Work closely with:

Cardiothoracic surgeons
-
Anesthesiologists
-
Perfusionists
-
Registered nurses
-
Communicate effectively in high-pressure situations
- Properly label and handle surgical specimens for lab analysis
- Assist with wound dressing and closure support

Clean and restock the operating room
-
Prepare instruments for sterilization
- Document surgical procedures and supplies used

Follow hospital policies and surgical safety protocols
