Overview
A Commercial Electrical Mechanic installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical systems and equipment in commercial buildings such as offices, schools, hospitals, retail centers, warehouses, and industrial facilities. The role requires knowledge of electrical codes, blueprints, safety procedures, and electrical distribution systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install electrical wiring, conduit, panels, transformers, lighting systems, and control
- devices.
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical malfunctions in commercial facilities.
- Install and terminate electrical equipment.
- Test electrical systems using meters, testing devices, and diagnostic equipment.
- Ensure all work complies with local, state, and national electrical codes.
- Follow OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Completion of an electrical apprenticeship or equivalent work experience.
- Knowledge of commercial electrical systems and wiring methods.
- Ability to read electrical drawings and specifications.
- Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Ability to work from ladders, lifts, and scaffolding.
- Valid driver's license may be required
- Experience with commercial construction projects preferred.
- Knowledge of fire alarm, data, and low-voltage systems preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds or more.
- Stand, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
- Work at heights and in varying weather conditions.
- Manual dexterity to handle tools and electrical components.
Work Environment:
- Commercial, institutional, and industrial construction sites.
- Exposure to dust, noise, and outdoor weather conditions.
- Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
