American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool position requiring 2 years of PICU experience and VA or compact RN licensure.

Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool position at a teaching hospital
-
Floats to various pediatric units including PICU, NICU, peds med-surg, peds PACU, peds ED boarders, and postpartum/mother-baby
-
Night shift schedule (4x12 hours), 19:00-7:00

36 or 48 hours per week, every other weekend required

Must work 2 of the 3 winter holidays

Block scheduling cannot be accommodated or guaranteed

Patient ratio of 1:2

Uses Epic charting system

Must float within scope of practice per facility float policy
-
Active RN license (VA or compact) required; pending license accepted if in-hand by the Wednesday before start date

2 years of PICU experience required
-
Comfortable with NICU, acute pediatrics, and pediatric ED patient populations
-
Prior travel nursing experience required, or previous NICU/PICU float pool experience considered

Required certifications: BLS, NRP, ACLS, and PALS
-
Dr. Brown's Infant-Driven Feeding Certificate required (can submit with certification pending)

Epic EMR experience required
-
Teaching hospital experience required
-
Peds PACU experience highly preferred

BSN preferred
-
Previous charge nurse experience preferred

Provide critical care nursing support across multiple pediatric units as part of a float pool team
-
Complete specialty-specific modules during orientation, recorded in Workday
-
Maximum of 40 hours RTO per 13-week contract; no additional RTO approved after offer acceptance
-
No RTO can be approved during the first 2 weeks of the assignment
-
Disclose any vacation time between sign date and start date to determine an appropriate start date
-
First-time travelers may be considered if candidate has previous NICU/PICU float pool experience

Previous UVA Health employees (permanent staff or internal/external travelers) must disclose this; a 1-year separation and leadership approval required for former permanent staff or internal travelers

External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return once this threshold is reached
-
Longer assignment length may be offered through 01/02/2027
