About GotBrakes
GotBrakes Mobile Service provides mobile automotive, commercial-truck, and roadside repair services throughout Jacksonville. We are expanding our medium-duty and heavy-duty brake services and need an experienced technician who can complete jobs safely and independently.
Position Overview
We are looking for a highly experienced diesel and heavy-duty brake technician for part-time, as-needed work.
This is not a helper, apprentice, or beginner position. You must arrive fully equipped, diagnose the issue, complete the repair independently, and verify that the vehicle is safe before returning it to service.
Work may take place at customer locations, commercial properties, truck yards, or roadside locations.
Compensation
- $70–$90 per hour, depending on experience and capabilities
- Higher rate reserved for technicians with proven heavy-duty air-brake, wheel-end, and roadside experience
- Additional pay may be available for emergency, overnight, weekend, or difficult roadside calls
- No guaranteed weekly hours

Types of Work
- Medium-duty trucks, box trucks, semis, and trailers
- Front air-disc brake pads, rotors, calipers, and hardware
- Rear air-drum brake shoes, drums, springs, rollers, and hardware
- Brake chambers, slack adjusters, S-cams, hoses, fittings, and air leaks
- Wheel hubs, bearings, seals, wheel studs, and wheel-end repairs
- Commercial brake inspections and diagnosis
- Roadside and mobile repairs
- Automotive brake, hub, axle, bearing, and suspension work when needed
Own Tools and Equipment Are Required
Applicants must personally own and bring all professional tools and equipment needed to safely complete assigned repairs independently.
Required equipment may include:
- Professional hand and power tools
- Heavy-duty sockets and impact tools
- Calibrated torque wrenches
- Air-disc and air-drum brake service tools
- Heavy-duty jacks, jack stands, cribbing, and wheel chocks
- Brake measuring and inspection tools
- Hub, bearing, seal, chamber, and slack-adjuster tools
- Reliable vehicle capable of transporting tools and equipment
Applicants who do not own the proper tools and equipment will not be considered. You cannot depend on GotBrakes or another technician to supply missing tools.
Requirements
- Five or more years of professional mechanical experience
- Proven medium-duty or heavy-duty air-brake experience
- Able to complete air-disc and air-drum brake jobs without assistance
- Strong knowledge of hubs, bearings, seals, chambers, slack adjusters, and S-cams
- Understand proper lifting, supporting, chocking, measuring, adjustment, and torque procedures
- Must work independently with minimal supervision
- Reliable transportation required
- Must arrive on time and ready to work
- Professional customer communication
- Must document inspections and repairs with clear photos and notes
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Available for some evenings, weekends, emergency calls, or roadside work
Preferred Experience
- Mobile diesel or roadside repair
- Fleet maintenance
- International, Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Mack, Isuzu, Hino, or similar trucks
- Semi-truck and trailer brake systems
- ASE or equivalent certifications
Important
We need someone who already knows how to perform these repairs correctly and safely. We are not currently offering training for heavy-duty air-brake work.
Unsafe work, cutting corners, guessing, or accepting a job without the required tools will not be tolerated.
