Position Title: Secondary Orchestra Director
Department: Middle School/High School
Reports To: High School Principal
SUMMARY:

Organize and direct the Secondary Orchestra, providing instruction and leadership to develop a high quality performing organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

Maintain student records.
? Maintain inventory of all music and instruments.
? Coordinate the purchase of necessary equipment and materials.
? Schedule and conduct performances.
? Organize and direct participation in major concerts.
? Organize, plan, schedule and direct orchestra practices and performances.
? Organize and direct performances at school activities as needed.
? Assist students to tryout for and participate in district, regional and state festivals.
? Coordinate the orchestra's participation in community events or festivals.
? Articulate and promote program with feeder programs.
? Assist students to organize and oversee fund raising activities in accordance with school and district policies, as necessary.
? Supervise students during activities and provide for chaperons as needed.
? Maintain student discipline in accordance with the student K-12 Code of Conduct.
? Maintain two-way communications with parents of participants as needed.
? Prepare and submit end-of-year summary to the High School base school principal.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises students participating in this program. Directs activities of any program volunteers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
PA Music Certification or commensurate experience or knowledge of orchestra music and ensemble direction is desirable.
CONFIDENTIALITY:
The sponsor must respect student and family rights to privacy and comply with all laws, regulations and District policies and procedures governing confidential information.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules, operating or procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, their parents or employees of the district. Ability to communicate in a positive way with members of the media.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to guide appropriate record keeping of student accounts related to program.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Basic computer skills in word processing and database are helpful.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Exhibit qualities of leadership and organizational ability and reflect a spirit of cooperation in working with staff and school administration. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and stand. Occasionally the employee will sit and may run. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee may also frequently squat, stoop kneel reach above the head, reach forward and repeat the same hand motion many times while performing the duties of the job. Moderate lifting of equipment weighing between 10-50 pounds may be necessary.
The specific vision requirements of the job include good depth perception and occasionally being able to see objects/persons at a distance. While performing the duties of the job the employee frequently is required to hear conversation in a quiet as well as a noisy environment and be able to tell where a sound is coming from. The employee must be able to communicate to the students in order to give directions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will continuously work inside or outside depending on the event.
