Opportunity Overview:
We're seeking a skilled Scenery Carpenter based in Chicago to support a range of live events, theatrical productions, and experiential installations. You’ll work closely with production teams to build and install scenic elements that bring creative visions to life.
This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in fast-paced, collaborative environments and takes pride in precise, safe, and professional scenic construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret scenic construction drawings and build scenic elements to spec.
- Construct set pieces using wood, metal, and composite materials.
- Operate standard carpentry tools, power saws, drills, and other equipment safely.
- Assist with load-ins, on-site assembly, and strike/tear-down of sets.
- Ensure all builds are structurally sound and meet safety guidelines.
- Work efficiently under time constraints while maintaining quality.
Requirements
- Prior experience as a scenery carpenter for live events, theater, or exhibitions.
- Strong working knowledge of carpentry tools and scenic materials.
- Ability to read and follow technical drawings and construction plans.
- Physically fit and capable of lifting, moving, and assembling heavy items.
- Punctual, reliable, and able to work both independently and within a team.
- Based in or willing to commute to Chicago, IL.
- Own basic tools and PPE (preferred but not mandatory).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in scenic painting, rigging, or CNC woodworking.
- OSHA 10/30 certification or equivalent safety training.
- Valid driver’s license and/or access to a vehicle.
