Job Overview
The Recovery Specialist is responsible for managing defaulted and high-risk accounts within our funding portfolio. This role focuses on negotiating payment arrangements, reducing losses, coordinating legal escalations, and driving recoveries while maintaining professionalism and compliance.
This is a performance-driven role with clear KPIs tied to recovery rates and portfolio health, reporting to our Director of Portfolio Operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesPortfolio Management
- Manage a pipeline of delinquent and defaulted merchant accounts
- Review bounce reports and payment return activity
- Analyze merchant financial behavior and payment trends
- Prioritize accounts based on exposure and risk profile
Collections & Negotiation
- Contact merchants via phone, email, and SMS to resolve missed payments
- Negotiate structured payment plans and workout agreements
- Secure lump-sum settlements when appropriate
- Document all communications in CRM
Legal & Escalations
- Prepare accounts for legal escalation when necessary
- Coordinate with collections attorneys and legal partners
- Assist with UCC enforcement, confessions of judgment, and other remedies
- Monitor legal recovery progress and reporting
Reporting & Performance
- Track recovery performance metrics
- Create daily financial reports
- Maintain accurate records of settlements and adjustments
- Provide weekly recovery updates to management
- Identify trends in defaults and recommend process improvements
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in alternative lending, or high-volume collections
- Strong understanding of ACH returns and default workflows
- Experience negotiating payment plans and settlements
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment
- Strong communication and persuasion skills
- Knowledge of UCC filings and legal processes is a plus
