Candidates must be willing to work at both Cascade Veterinary Clinic locations in Garden Valley and Cascade, ID.
Hours: 8am - 5:30pm, Monday-Friday.
Monday/Wednesday/Friday in Garden Valley and Tuesday/Thursday in Cascade.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures by preparing animals and maintaining a sterile environment using aseptic techniques.
- Handle animals safely and confidently, including dog handling, animal restraint, and equine experience when applicable.
- Perform animal husbandry tasks such as feeding, cleaning enclosures, and maintaining proper record keeping of patient histories and treatment plans.
- Administer medications and injections (including IV insertion) accurately following veterinary instructions while ensuring animal safety through proper restraint and handling.
- Support laboratory work by collecting samples, performing basic tests, and maintaining laboratory equipment with attention to detail.
- Maintain cleanliness of the clinic by sanitizing kennels, treatment areas, surgical instruments, and equipment to uphold health standards.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding pet care instructions, medication administration, and follow-up needs while demonstrating excellent client communication skills.
Requirements
- Previous veterinary clinic experience or veterinary assistant experience is highly preferred; familiarity with veterinary terminology is essential.
- Kennel experience and veterinary critical care experience are advantageous for handling diverse patient needs efficiently.
- Strong animal handling skills across different species including dogs, cats, and horses; knowledge of animal behavior enhances safety and care quality.
- Ability to perform technical tasks such as IV insertion, animal catheterization, aseptic technique, and medication administration accurately.
- Experience with front desk duties such as client communication, appointment scheduling, record keeping, and managing pet care inquiries.
- Knowledge of animal physiology and anatomy helps in understanding treatment procedures and patient needs.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) use is mandatory to ensure safety for both staff and animals during procedures.
- Excellent organizational skills for record keeping and laboratory tasks; attention to detail is crucial for accurate documentation.
