Position Summary
This position coordinates with providers supporting medication prescribing and monitoring services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supports the clinical activities of personnel to ensure appropriate medication management for clients.
- Maintains client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
- Ensures nursing assessments comply with DMH standards and the Mississippi Nursing Practice Acts.
- Provides medication education to patients, addressing side effects, efficacy, and other relevant medication-related topics.
- Monitors medication effectiveness, side effects, and client responses across the medication program.
- Develops and implements nursing care plans for psychiatric clients.
- Provides medication injections to clients directly.
- Supervises the administration of medications and injections according to physician orders.
- Establishes and maintains quality control procedures for medication storage, handling, and administration.
- Manages the Nursing Pool Inbox, including processing medication refill requests from pharmacies, handling prior authorizations, and responding to pharmacy calls.
- Triages patient requests received in EPIC.
- Performs lab result follow-ups and orders labs for therapeutic drug levels.
- Maintains sample medications inventory, ensuring proper storage, documentation, and compliance with applicable regulations.
- Coordinates training and professional development for medication clinic staff.
- Partner with local nursing schools to develop and implement clinical nursing rotations focused on mental health services, while providing comprehensive on-site clinical supervision and educational support for assigned students.
- Ensure proper documentation in electronic health records.
- Participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning and case staffing.
- Develops and maintains nursing policies and procedures for the medication clinic.
- Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.
- Monitors inventory of medical supplies and medications.
- Addresses client concerns regarding medication management.
- Utilizes a person-centered approach in all client interactions, ensuring care is individualized, respectful, and aligned with each client's goals and preferences.
- May provide nursing coverage to the Intensive Community Outreach Team (ICORT) during team nursing coverage needs.
- Identifies opportunities for service improvement and implements appropriate measures.
Education and Qualification Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the state of Mississippi.
- Minimum of two (2) years' experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing, preferred.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
- Working knowledge of the DSM-5.
- Experience with medication management for psychiatric disorders.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of psychotropic medications, indications, and side effects.
- Proficiency in electronic health record documentation.
- Knowledge of quality assurance and performance improvement methods.
- Ability to coordinate multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Current knowledge of evidence-based practices in psychiatric nursing.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff and clients.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Current CPR certification.
- Completion of CPI within the first 30 days of employment.
- Knowledge of DMH standards and requirements.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
