The First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain is seeking a Food Hub Manager to support the Centre for Faith, Art & Justice’s (The Centre) Food Justice Program, a project of the First Baptist Church in Jamaica.
The Centre’s Food Justice Program is one of the fastest growing food security initiatives serving Greater Boston. Our mission is to help to mitigate the growing hunger crisis of neighbors impacted by food insecurity through weekly food program offerings and a low-cost community market open daily for our community located at 3702 Washington Street.
The Centre Food Justice program is seeking a self-motivated and dynamic individual to fill the role of Food Hub Manager. The Food Hub Manager serves to support operations of the pantry and store, daily food orders, delivery and distribution to various sites (kitchen, pantry, store and sites).
This position is primarily located at the Washington Street location (The Centre Food Hub), and requires a positive team player who will work in close collaboration with FBCJP and Centre Program staff and volunteers.
Responsibilities of this role include:
- Provide hospitality and support for all shoppers, recipients, volunteers, staff and guests of FBCJP and the Centre’s Food Justice Program
- Assist the Food Justice Program with communicating its mission to donors and recipients
- Oversee evening and Saturday operations of the Food Hub pantry and store including: opening and/or closing; receiving deliveries from all vendors; inventory; design and stocking; pricing and income records
- Ensure high levels of recipient and volunteer satisfaction through excellent service
- Work with Food Justice Program Coordinator to keep accurate records of weekly cash deposits for all Food Hub income and provide necessary reports to FBCJP Office Administrator
- Maintain Hub facility within industry standards according to Health Code requirements for cleaning, logistics, and safety
- Demonstrate ability to manage time, multitask projects, work independently and follow instruction
- Ability to exercise good judgment, diplomacy and sensitivity to all persons, regardless of faith, economic status, disability, culture, race, age, gender, sexual orientation and human condition.
- Work with the Food Justice Coordinator and Community Liaison to ensure overall success of Food Hub operations through workflow management and weekly volunteer schedules
SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS
- Food programming experience preferred.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Ability to stand for long periods, bend, reach, and lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to balance and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to assume a leadership role, problem solve in the moment and coordinate with staff & volunteer teams the strategies needed.
- Strong communication, collaborative interpersonal skills with ability to maintain confidentiality
- Effective technology skills, proficient in Google Spreadsheets & Documents and social media
- Ability to exercise good judgment, diplomacy, and sensitivity to all persons, regardless of faith, economic status, disability, culture, race, age, gender, sexual orientation and human condition.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates:
- Valid Driver’s license preferred but not required
COMPENSATION:
$30,000, 20 hours per week

Sick Leave cumulative for the year
At this time there are no other benefits, including health, dental, or retirement
This position is a part-time, non-exempt and will work the following *standard schedule:
3:30pm to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
9:00 am -5:00 pm on Saturday
The Food Hub Manager position is not permitted to work more than 20 hours per week without prior authorization from their supervisor.
