The Role
As a Commissioning Electrical Engineer, you will lead and support electrical commissioning activities across a diverse portfolio of industrial, energy, and data center projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute commissioning and start-up activities for:
- Low Voltage (LV) and Medium Voltage (MV) systems
- Switchgear
- Transformers
- Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
- Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Generators
- UPS systems
- Grounding systems
- Protection relays
- Develop and implement:
- Commissioning procedures
- Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)
- Functional test protocols
- Commissioning schedules
- Conduct:
- Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
- Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
- Loop checks
- Continuity testing
- Insulation resistance testing
- Protection coordination verification
- Perform primary and secondary injection testing and support relay testing activities
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and system integration issues during commissioning and start-up
- Coordinate daily commissioning activities with engineering, construction, QA/QC, safety, vendor, and client teams
- Review electrical drawings, single-line diagrams (SLDs), schematics, and equipment datasheets to ensure compliance with project requirements
- Prepare commissioning reports, test records, punch lists, and turnover documentation
- Ensure all commissioning activities are completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with quality standards
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- 5–6 years of experience in electrical commissioning, testing, and start-up
- Strong understanding of:
- NEC
- NFPA
- IEEE
- NETA ATS/MTS standards
- Experience in one or more of the following industries:
- Oil & Gas
- Industrial Manufacturing
- Power Generation
- Data Centers
- HVAC / Mechanical Systems Integration
- Hands-on experience using:
- Insulation Resistance (IR) Testers
- Primary Injection Test Equipment
- Secondary Injection Test Sets
- Relay Testing Equipment
- Hi-Pot Testers
- Ability to interpret complex electrical drawings, schematics, and single-line diagrams
- Strong communication, leadership, and client-facing skills
Preferred Qualifications
NETA Level II, III, or IV
PMP
Texas PE License
OSHA 30
NFPA 70E Training
