Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate staffer to provide exceptional care for pets while their owners are away. The ideal candidate will have a genuine love for animals and the ability to ensure their well-being through attentive care, exercise, and companionship. This role requires adaptable thinking, reliability, and a strong commitment to providing a safe and nurturing environment for pets.
This role is semi-Flexible with fixed days as the primary office worker. You will be responsible for checking pets in and out for their stays, handling payments, using our internal system, and safely handling or managing pets of various temperaments and behavior, primarily dogs and cats of all breeds and sizes. As well as general cleaning and dog walking as needed during the day to day. In addition to these fixed office hours, we often have additional back of house shifts available most weeks.
This business is extremely holiday oriented, please note that even if the office is closed we are here every day of the week and during holidays. You will be required to work at least a partial shift on most holidays with everyone to split the workload, there is bonus pay associated with holiday shifts.
During the off season(Winter, typically after New Years Eve) the hours available for this role will likely decrease to only the scheduled fixed office days, and when business begins to pick up again the hours available will increase.
You must have your own reliable transportation for this job, there is no public transport available to this facility as we are well out of town.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily care for pets, including feeding and walking as needed.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of pets in your care at all times.
- Maintain cleanliness in pet areas, including kennel runs, litter boxes, and outdoor areas.
- Engage pets in playtime and exercise to promote physical health and mental stimulation.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding their pets’ needs and any concerns that may arise.
- Handle various types and temperaments of animals with confidence, ensuring proper restraint when necessary.
- Assist with basic grooming tasks as required to maintain pet hygiene such as bathing and nail trims.
- Document any changes in behavior or health of the pets for owner updates.
Skills
- Proficient in dog handling techniques and understanding canine behavior and body language.
- Strong background in dog handling, animal care, and animal handling practices.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary (e.g., lifting large bags of pet food or assisting larger animals).
- Excellent customer service skills to build rapport with pet owners and address their concerns effectively.
