Senior Statutory Accountant
Function:
Responsible for the preparation of statutory financial statements, gaap reporting and supplemental filings for Southlake Specialty Insurance Company, while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations and those controls established internally.
Reports to: CFO
FSLA Status: Exempt
Key responsibilities:

Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual statutory and gaap financial statements

Maintain financial work papers and schedules, reconcile account balances and post journal entries

Research statutory and gaap accounting practices as required

Reconcile GAAP to STAT differences

Develop and maintain proficiency with FSI Oasis statutory reporting software and Flexi general ledger system

Produce monthly management reports for analyzing financial results

Prepare NAIC supplemental statutory filings and assist with other state filings
-
Prepare monthly reinsurance reports

Provide support to external accountant for the preparation of federal income taxes
-
Provide support to external auditors for annual audited financial statements
-
Provide requested data to the company’s internal and external actuaries
-
Provide materials for company board meetings

Assist with providing data to AM Best for the company’s annual rating review

Assist with Department of Insurance examinations
-
Maintain financial controls in accordance with established procedures and best practices
Qualifications & Education Requirements:
-
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration
-
5 years of relevant public accounting and/or industry experience, with a focus on insurance accounting

Knowledge of statutory accounting practices and procedures
-
Excellent technical and organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to work within strict timeframes

Demonstrated ability to work well in team environment

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
