FORTINET SECURITY & HELP DESK ENGINEER
Job Description: We are looking for a Fortinet-certified engineer who has completed at least up to the NSE4 certification. The engineer will also be required to work regular Help Desk tickets when Fortinet work is not required, so a strict Fortinet engineer is not what the Company is seeking. Rather, we seek a well-rounded engineer with the requisite Fortinet skills and certifications who can assist with other NOC/SOC work.
Job Types: Full-time. “On call” availability will be required but is rotated through the entire NOC/SOC.
Geography: Reliably commute throughout the Chicago area as well as southern Wisconsin to work at multiple locations. When not on-site work may be fully remote.
Compensation: $30.00 - $36.00 per hour, plus OT
As a Fortinet Engineer, key points to this position are as follows:
Specialized network security professional responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining TCCC’s customer’s Fortinet-based infrastructure. Ensure network security, optimal performance, and high availability by managing systems like FortiGate firewalls, SD-WAN, and the broader Fortinet Security Fabric.
Core Fortinet Responsibilities Include:
- Infrastructure Management: Architect and configure FortiGate firewalls, switches, and access points.
- Security & Threat Management: Monitor network performance, VPNs, and access control measures to prevent cyber threats.
- Centralized Operations: Utilize central management and analytics tools like FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer.
- Tier II Support: Troubleshoot complex network and security issues, escalating to vendor support when necessary.
- Maintenance: Perform routine firmware upgrades, patches, and system updates.
Key Requirements & Qualifications:
- Experience: 2-3 years in network and security engineering, often working in environments heavily standardized on Fortinet.
- Expertise: Deep understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, VPNs, and SD-WAN.
- Certifications: Possessing or pursuing Fortinet Network Security Expert (NSE) credentials of at least NSE4 Is Required.
- Collaboration: Capability to work with cross-functional IT teams on cloud integrations (e.g., Azure, AWS) and identity access management.
As NOC/SOC Engineer responsibilities include:
- Respond to customer inquiries, performing in NOC/SOC type of environment, including, but not limited to, scheduling of work, troubleshooting options and techniques, performance failure or service incidents related to Provider/Carrier, network (LAN/WAN), hardware, software, infrastructure, and/or user error.
- Ability to clear service issues, tickets, and escalations through observation, diagnostics, reviewing documentation and knowledge base articles, skill sets, deductive reasoning, and manufacturer support.
- Follow-up, plan, organize, and work assigned tickets and assist TCCC personnel in all elements of Information Technology including the installation, modification, testing, repair and maintenance of server-based systems and associated equipment.
- Document and detail job-related activity (e.g. service orders showing work performed location of equipment, time and parts used for repairs and or modifications, weekly time sheets, etc.). Instruct, train, and work with customers on operation of customer equipment to ensure user knowledge of systems.
- Determine requirements and discusses appropriate course of action with Customers, technical support, or subcontractors.
- Ensure that requests are in accordance with applicable TCCC standards and budget guidelines.
- Ensure on-going knowledge growth and proficiency with AutoTask and Halo as well as any of TCCC required CRM tools and reporting applications.
- Document all information in AutoTask or Halo including notes, time entries, instructions, memos, knowledge base, etc.
- Work in conjunction with TCCC team to increase customer satisfaction and experience.
- Confirm and commit to sound business practices, professional integrity, and company goals.
Qualifications:
- US work authorization (Required)
- Bachelor's (Preferred)
- Computer networking: At least 2 years (Preferred)
- LAN: At least 2 years (Preferred)
- Microsoft 365: At least 2 years (Required)
- Active Directory: At least 2 years
