Our Columbus, Ohio client is operating in a moment of rapid change, where AI is reshaping both their products and the way they create them. For designers, this is a rare opportunity to work at the very heart of that shift. We are looking for a
UX Designer who is energized by this new landscape and wants to help define what great design looks like within it.
You will partner closely with our product managers to turn complex scientific workflows into designs that feel effortless, for an expert audience. Your work won't sit in a portfolio. It will help scientists reach answers sooner.
This is a contract role with real potential to grow into a long-term engagement.
Candidates must be willing to work onsite (can participate in the hybrid schedule).
Job Duties:
- Partner with product managers as a thought partner to define problems, shape product direction, and explore creative solution spaces beyond translating requirements. Turn complex scientific problems and ideas into clear, user-centered designs.
- Own the design process end to end, from early concept and wireframes through polished, engineering-ready handoff.
- Operate comfortably in fast-moving environments where design, prototyping, and validation happen continuously.
- Generate multiple creative solution paths for complex workflows, pushing beyond obvious or incremental improvements.
- Build and maintain design systems that keep products consistent and the team moving quickly.
- Champion usability and accessibility, and stay current with UX trends, techniques, and technologies.
- Initiate user research and translate insights into design decisions that measurably improve the experience.
Job Qualifications:
- A degree in UX Design or Human-Computer Interaction, or a background in the biological sciences paired with significant design experience.
- 3-7 years of UX design experience, ideally shaping software products from concept to launch. Experience in designing for a scientific or life sciences audience is a plus.
- Strong proficiency in Figma, with a portfolio that demonstrates design thinking, problem-solving, and craft.
- Proven experience with rapid prototyping to communicate and validate design concepts.
- Familiarity with design tokens and component libraries. Experience with Storybook is a plus.
- Enthusiasm for embracing AI tools to support and accelerate your design work, from research and ideation through rapid prototyping. Comfortable working with AI-assisted design-to-code workflows
- Experience working in an Agile development environment.
- Solid understanding of user-centered design principles, usability, and accessibility standards (such as WCAG).
- Strong visual and interaction design skills with a keen eye for detail, micro-interactions and creating delight for users.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills, able to bring others along through your work. the ability to make complex ideas clear to any audience.
- Demonstrated ability to think conceptually and creatively, especially in complex or ambiguous domains.
- Track record of delivering high-quality design outcomes with speed and pragmatism.
