Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Controls Systems Engineer / Automation Engineer to support and optimize automated material handling equipment (MHE) within a fast-paced, high-volume fulfillment environment. This role is ideal for a hands-on controls professional with strong troubleshooting, programming, and systems optimization experience who thrives in a highly automated operation.
You will play a critical role in maximizing equipment reliability, uptime, and operational performance while partnering closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities
Troubleshoot, modify, and optimize PLC and PC-based control systems including Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and RSLogix 5000 platforms.

Support and maintain automated systems including conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print-and-apply equipment, and SCADA systems.

Serve as the first point of escalation for on-site and remote controls support, including after-hours troubleshooting and emergency response.

Monitor and maintain industrial networks including Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, servo drives, VFDs, and associated electrical systems.

Identify reliability improvement opportunities and lead projects from concept through implementation.

Analyze system performance metrics, diagnose recurring issues, and implement process improvements to reduce downtime.

Ensure systems comply with design specifications, electrical codes, and safety standards.

Coordinate contractor activities including project scopes, scheduling, inspections, and maintenance oversight.

Communicate technical information, timelines, and operational impacts effectively with leadership, maintenance, and operations teams.

Build strong working relationships with clients, operations personnel, and cross-functional teams.

Qualifications
Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

2–5 years of experience in controls engineering, automation, or industrial systems support.

Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with PLC programming, robotics controls, and SCADA systems.

Experience participating in at least two full engineering design cycles including specification, equipment selection, and programming.

Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in industrial environments requiring climbing, bending, and extended standing.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous apprenticeship or advanced controls troubleshooting/programming experience.

Experience with conveyor systems, sortation equipment, and robotic maintenance.

Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
