Lead Carpenter – High-End Residential & Commercial Construction

Position Overview
We are a high-end residential and commercial construction company based in Newton, MA, seeking a highly skill Lead Carpenter who is both a leader and a hands-on craftsman.
This is not a management-only role — the ideal candedidate will spend the majority of their time working in the field, on the tools, leading by example while actively executing high-level carpentry work.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and lead all aspects of carpentry work on-site, including hands-on execution daily
- Work directly with tools to complete rough and finish carpentry tasks to the highest standards
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications with precision
- Execute high-end finish work, including cabinetry, trim, and custom millwork
- Perform structural framing, layout, and installation
- Lead by example—working alongside crew members, not just directing them
- Supervise and mentor carpenters and laborers while actively participating in the work
- Coordinate with project managers and other trades to keep projects on track
- Maintain job site cleanliness, organization, and strict safety standards
- Troubleshoot and solve problems in real time in the field
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional carpentry experience
- Proven experience as a working lead carpenter (not solely supervisory)
- Advanced skills in both rough and finish carpentry
- Strong ability to independently execute complex carpentry tasks from start to finish
- Deep knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building codes
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and execute without constant oversight
- Strong leadership skills with a team-first, lead-by-example mindset
- Reliable, punctual, and professional
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Must be physically fit and able to perform demanding manual labor daily
- Regularly lift, carry, and handle materials (50+ lbs)
- Comfortable working full days on tools in all weather conditions
- Heat, cold, rain, snow, and changing New England conditions
- Ability to work on ladders, scaffolding, roofs, and uneven terrain
- Strong awareness of weather impact on materials, safety, and scheduling
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in high-end custom homes and commercial interiors
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification
- Experience managing small crews while remaining hands-on
- Strong eye for detail and high-end finishes
Pay: $32.00 - $48.00 per hour
