We are looking for a mechanically skilled Die Setter, Precision Metal Fabricator, Manual Machinist, or experienced manufacturing professional who is interested in expanding their skills in die setup and tooling.
Candidates with backgrounds in tool & die, metal fabrication, manual lathes or mills, press setup, machining, or other precision metalworking environments are encouraged to apply.
Position Summary
The Die Setter is responsible for setting up and supporting mechanical and hydraulic presses ranging from 20 to 600 tons.
This is a hands-on position requiring strong mechanical aptitude, blueprint reading, precision measurement, troubleshooting skills, and an understanding of how tooling and material interact during the manufacturing process.
We are open to experienced Die Setters as well as skilled metalworking professionals who have the mechanical foundation and interest to further develop their die-setting and tooling skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, install, align, clamp, and remove dies in mechanical and hydraulic presses.
- Perform press setups on equipment ranging from 20 to 600 tons.
- Read and interpret blueprints, process sheets, work instructions, and dimensional specifications.
- Verify material type and thickness prior to production.
- Use precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances.
- Perform first-piece inspections and make adjustments as necessary.
- Inspect dies and tooling for wear, damage, cleanliness, and sharpening requirements.
- Assist with troubleshooting tooling, press, and production issues.
- Set and verify required machine safety devices and operator safeguards.
- Work closely with Quality and Production to ensure finished parts meet specifications.
- Safely move and position dies and tooling using appropriate material-handling equipment.
- Maintain accurate production and ERP documentation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities related to tooling, setup time, quality, and production efficiency.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in a metal manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas is strongly preferred:
- Die setting or press setup
- Tool & die
- Precision metal fabrication
- Manual lathe or manual mill operation
- Machining
- Deep-draw or metal-forming operations
- Mechanical or hydraulic press operation
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting ability.
- Ability to read blueprints and manufacturing drawings.
- Experience using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Basic shop math skills.
- Ability to work safely around presses, dies, tooling, and manufacturing equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school training is a plus.
- ERP experience is helpful but not required.
- U.S. citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status is required due to ITAR-controlled technical data access requirements.
