ICSAtlanta School Resource Officer
Primary Function
Provides leadership, administrative, managerial, and technical functions associated with directing the overall operations of ICSAtlanta’s safety and security programming. Provides individual and property protection; controls campus of the school for safety and security purposes; monitors and controls school sites and parking; coordinates safety and security for all school activities and other activities.

Required Qualifications & Experience
- Certification/License Required: Georgia POST certified and in good standing with POST requirements
- Successfully meets all requirements of an extensive background investigation and assessment, including driver’s history and criminal history information
- Meets all training requirements and standards established by ICSAtlanta, including POST in-service requirements and any additional training designated by the Executive Director.
- Provide POST certification number.
- Maintain POST certification throughout employment.
- Minimum 5 years sworn law enforcement experience.
- No sustained findings or pending investigations for excessive force, dishonesty, bias-based policing, sexual misconduct, or conduct unbecoming. Clean POST disciplinary record with no current probations, suspensions, sanctions, or pending complaints.
- Successfully complete a POST-approved school resource officer training course (such as GPSTC course MC1294 or equivalent) consistent with O.C.G.A. § 35-8-27, prior to assignment or within twelve (12) months of assignment. ICSAtlanta will fund and schedule required training.
- Physical Activities: Able to perform the physical functions of the position, including extended periods of standing and walking across two campuses (approximately 0.6 miles apart), climbing stairs, responding rapidly to emergencies, restraining individuals when legally justified, and operating safety and security equipment. Must meet the contracting agency's physical fitness standards.
- Proficient written and oral communication, including the ability to write clear incident reports, communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and outside agencies, and present information professionally to diverse audiences.
Primary Functions & Essential Responsibilities
- Adheres to laws governed by the United States, the State of Georgia, the County of Fulton, and the ICSAtlanta Board of Education Policy and Regulations.
- Assists, when necessary, with morning, afternoon, or special-event traffic control within the school facility and on/around school campuses.
- Provides security for all outside-of-school-hours events as assigned by ICSAtlanta's Executive Director (and no more than 10 per school year).
- Counsels and refers students, when needed, to appropriate school officials.
- Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
- Directs visitors on campus according to school policies.
- Investigates or assists with investigations of crimes occurring on ICSAtlanta property.
- Performs other duties as assigned by ICSAtlanta's Executive Director.
- Protects campus from disturbances and criminal activity.
- Reports all criminal and suspected criminal activity to campus director or Executive Director through report forms and procedures as directed by ICSAtlanta's Executive Director.
- Responds to emergency situations including, but not limited to, reported/possible crimes in progress, fire alarms, and code blues.
- Testifies to criminal cases in court as required.
- Works with students and staff members as deemed necessary through monitoring, questioning, and counseling.
- Works with teachers on class presentations as needed or when requested by campus directors or the Executive Director.
- Writes clear and concise reports.
- Monitors security system cameras/feed and pulls videos as needed to review injuries and or behavior occurrences.
- Addresses groups or assemblies of students for the purpose of crime deterrence when requested.
- Assists in criminal investigations and prepares reports as needed.
- Maintains and oversees department inventory; purchases equipment (uniforms, safety gear, radios, and office supplies).
- Makes recommendations concerning the purchase of equipment or supplies relating to ICSAtlanta's safety and security needs.
- Provides early warnings of adverse weather or other conditions affecting safe operations of schools.
- Actively monitors community police activities to ensure safety of ICSAtlanta campuses; advises for code yellow or code red as needed (i.e. shooter at large in the community)
- Responds to and makes decisions related to critical incidents and crime scenes when necessary.
- Responds to public/parent concerns regarding safety and security and law enforcement issues.
- Reviews current State legislation to ensure compliance with State Law, reviews school safety plans and emergency management procedures best practices, evaluates and refines school security measures as needed.
- Serves as a liaison between ICSAtlanta and Local, State, and Federal Emergency response units/personnel.
- Works to implement and coordinate ICSAtlanta's safety and security programming within the guidelines of the board policies and ICSAtlanta's Executive Director.
- Cooperates and assists local school principals with safety and security issues, including staff-training as necessary.
- Attends ongoing police and safety-related training as mandated by ICSAtlanta's Executive Director
