Job Summary
Our client is looking for an entry level cable technician on a six months contract to hire arrangement.
They are a growing telecom company with a focus on caring about their employees that separates them from many of the other telecommunication companies out there.
This person will work in the local Denver market and will be part of building a number of large infrastructure projects (including data centers).
While a typical work week will be 40 hours, there will be times in which the work will be more than that, but you will be paid OT (time and a half) for anything over 40 hours.
As an Entry Level Cable Technician, you will play a vital role in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting a variety of cabling systems that keep our digital world connected. Any experience in the cable industry as a cable puller or technician would be a huge plus.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation and termination of various cabling systems including Cat5, Cat6, fiber optic cables, and low voltage wiring for telecommunication and data networks
- Support senior technicians in setting up network equipment such as Cisco routers, Juniper devices, VoIP systems, and Ethernet connections
- Use diagnostic tools like ohmmeters and RF testers to identify issues with cabling or network connections
- Read and interpret schematics, technical diagrams, and wiring diagrams to ensure proper installation procedures
- Conduct basic troubleshooting of network problems using computer networking principles and diagnostic tools
- Help maintain safety standards by properly handling hand tools, power tools, electrical systems (AC/DC), and adhering to NEC (National Electrical Code) guidelines
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients during installations or repairs
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certifications in telecommunications or electrical systems are a plus
- Basic understanding of computer hardware, networking concepts (LAN/WAN), Ethernet cabling (Cat5/Cat6), and telecommunication systems such as Avaya or VoIP
- Familiarity with schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals related to network wiring and equipment setup
- Ability to use diagnostic tools including ohmmeters, RF testers, and other testing equipment confidently
- Experience working with hand tools, power tools, electrical systems (AC/DC), and low voltage wiring preferred
- Strong customer service skills with a professional attitude when interacting with clients
- Willingness to learn new skills related to fiber splicing, CCTV systems including CCTV cameras and DVRs, radio frequency testing, and data center environments
- Physical ability to perform manual tasks such as lifting cables or equipment and working at heights when necessary
- Valid driver’s license preferred for travel between job sites
