POSITION OVERVIEW
The Roosevelt Irrigation District delivers water and power across lands in Avondale, Goodyear and Buckeye. We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our landowners rely on the RID for these critical resources. The Maintenance Foreman is a crucial part of our team in fulfilling this directive. The Foreman must oversee the maintenance of canals, ditches, and delivery facilities. The Foreman works alongside and supervises a crew made up of laborers and operators. The Foreman must ensure continued safe operation of the District’s conveyance systems and protect the assets of the District from damage through proper maintenance and repair. This position is considered an on-call posting with the possibility of emergency responsiveness day or night.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Reliably manage multiple small scale construction projects
- Supervise a crew for proper work safety, effort, and efficiency
- Create a positive work environment focused on productivity and quality
- Develop daily work plans anticipating delays and disruptions
- Maintain equipment and tools
- Maintain schedules for the ordering, delivery, and inventory of supplies and tools
- Communicate effectively with management, staff, contractors, and consultants
- Receive assignments, coordinate employees, delegate tasks, and provide instruction for proper completion of all assigned work duties and projects
- Assess worksite environment to ensure smooth and safe operation of all projects
- Supply staff with materials or equipment to ensure timely completion of duties as needed

REQUIRED CERTIFICAITONS AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Valid/Clean Driver’s License
- Commercial Driver’s License OR Must agree to acquire within first year of employment
- Maintain a clean MVR and night driving is required
- Preferred - Prior experience
- Preferred – Safety Certification
- Preferred - Additional Certifications / License Endorsements are an advantage but not required
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Required - Effectively communicate in one-on-one or small group settings to employees, customers, and business partners
- Required - Knowledge of concrete construction
- Preferred - Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Preferred - Construction practices – Safety and Technical Protocols
- Preferred - Knowledge of hydraulic machinery and efficiencies
REQUIRED ABILITIES
- Arithmetic-Ability to perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Reading-Ability to read, write, and comprehend correspondence (email and written) and simple instructions
- Reasoning-Ability to apply common sense to simple problems. Understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Problem resolution involving several variables in varied situations.
- Driving-Ability to operate vehicles and equipment up to and including trucks, dump trucks, crew trucks, and other equipment as necessary (dependent on certification & licensing requirements). Driving will be along paved surface streets, unimproved roads, and/or graveled canal roads. Occasional night driving may be necessary.
- Computer skills-Must have basic knowledge in Windows, Microsoft Office and Outlook (email).The ability to write and respond to electronic correspondence professionally and in a comprehensive manner.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to vibrations, moving mechanical equipment/parts, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions which include frequent sunshine, occasional rain, wind, and/or extreme heat and cold weather, mud, water, wet and/or humid conditions, altitudes, precarious places, and the risk of electrical shock. Noise levels and work conditions are moderate and can vary frequently by location, mostly always around water. This may include working at night.
