Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Optician to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing exceptional eye care services to our patients. This position requires expertise in optical practices, patient interaction, and retail sales. The Optician will work closely with optometrists and other healthcare professionals to ensure that patients receive the best possible care and products tailored to their needs.
Duties
- Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear, including frames and lenses, based on their prescriptions and personal preferences.
- Conduct fittings and adjustments for eyewear to ensure proper comfort and functionality.
- Maintain an organized inventory of optical products and supplies.
- Educate patients on proper eyewear care, contact lens usage, and eye health.
- Process orders for eyewear and manage patient records using EMR systems such as OfficeMate and MaximEyes.
- Lab - inputting of jobs, insurance knowledge (VSP, Eyemed, etc), quality control, lensometry
- Collaborate with optometrists to understand patient needs and provide relevant recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations regarding patient confidentiality.
- Perform basic laboratory tasks related to lens fabrication and repair.
- Utilize medical terminology effectively when communicating with patients and healthcare providers.
- Engage in retail sales activities, including upselling additional products or services.
- Must be able to work Monday – Thursday 8am to 6pm and Friday 7am to 11am, if unable to work those hours, please do not apply
Experience
Candidates should possess a strong background in the following areas:
- Optical experience is essential.
- Previous experience in retail management or sales is a plus, particularly in a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of medical coding, billing, and vital signs is beneficial for effective patient care.
- Experience working with pediatric patients or senior care is an advantage.
- Familiarity with aseptic techniques, anatomy knowledge, physiology knowledge, and laboratory experience will enhance the candidate's ability to perform effectively in this role.
- Proficiency in managing medical records and understanding retail math will be advantageous for maintaining accurate inventory and sales records.
