POSITION: Behavioral Health Night Counselor

THE OPPORTUNITY
Ever Well is searching for a caring and compassionate Behavioral Health Night Counselor to join our growing team. This role is a major contributor to our core mission and serves as a direct line of support within our residential communities — creating a safe, secure, and nurturing environment for adults experiencing significant mental or emotional challenges during overnight hours.
This is a primary role. It is not a second job or part-time position. We are looking for experienced professionals with a reliable track record.

SCHEDULE OPTIONS
- 10:30PM–6:30AM
- 2:00PM-11:00PM
- Weekends and Holidays as Scheduled
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with bed-checks and regular rounds of the facility.
- Assist with the overall security of the facility.
- Assure that facility, resident, and program areas are clean, organized, and safe.
- Provide support and de-escalate resident concerns in a calm and safe manner.
- Assure nightly documentation and other resident paperwork is completed as directed.
- Perform emergency first aid in emergency situations as needed.
- Report suspected abuse or other incidents according to trained and established procedures.
- Act as lead for other counselors including the assigning of tasks as needed.
- Perform regular cleaning duties as assigned.
- Attend and participate in staff, program, facility, and training meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS – WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
An experienced, dependable night shift professional with a background in licensed residential or mental health care settings. This is not an entry-level position. The ideal candidate exercises sound judgment, maintains calm under pressure, and brings a reliable, consistent work history.
REQUIRED – EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- High school diploma or GED required; additional education in human services or healthcare preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, or related humanities field preferred.
- Minimum two years of experience in a licensed mental health or residential care facility required.
- Experience required. Entry-level candidates will not be considered.
REQUIRED – ABILITIES & ATTRIBUTES
- Excellent team player and communicator with all levels of staff.
- Tact and diplomacy when working with vendors and outside parties.
- Ability to read and understand documents; write simple memos and reports; and speak effectively with residents and staff.
- Ability to engage and communicate with residents in an empathetic manner.
- Ability to work effectively with persons differing in value systems, ethnicity, cultural backgrounds, language capabilities, and disabilities.
- Ability to follow directions and work within a program and systems structure.
- High degree of discretion and independent judgment.
- Exercises good judgment and acts calmly in emergency situations.
- High emotional and collective awareness.
- Great sense of humor and values humility.
- Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work legally in the United States.
REQUIRED – CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
- Valid California driver's license, current automobile insurance, and good driving record.
- Current First Aid Certificate and CPR Certification (preferred)
- Must be able to obtain and maintain criminal records clearance as required by Title 22 regulations.
PREFERRED
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, or related field (preferred)
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Certification such as CDAC or equivalent.
REQUIRED – PHYSICAL
- Walking, sitting, pinching, finger flexion, and visual/auditory acuity required constantly (over 2/3 of the workday).
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, and twisting required occasionally (under 1/3 of the workday).
- Balancing, climbing, and crawling generally not required.
- Ability to pass an employment physical.
- Current TB test (no negative results within the last 12 months).
