SUMMARY:
Responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, healthy, and welcoming environment for children, families, staff, and visitors. This position performs routine custodial duties, preventative maintenance, minor repairs, grounds maintenance, and assists with ensuring all Head Start facilities meet federal, state, and local health and safety requirements. Duties will be performed at three locations in Jamestown: Head Start Preschool, Emergency Services, and Admin/Early Head Start buildings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Daily cleaning at the Head Start Preschool center, Early Head Start center, and other areas as assigned. Including but not limited to vacuuming, bathrooms, mopping, disinfect surfaces, and trash removal.
· Deep cleaning during school breaks and summer months. Including but not limited to cleaning windows and interior surfaces.
· Pickup food items at Russ Davis, WalMart, Hugo’s, or other locations assigned.
· Deliver contracted meals to the centers.
· Snow removal from entrances, walkways, and stairs and the Head Start Preschool and the Emergency Services buildings.
· Lawn and grounds maintenance at the Head Start Preschool, Emergency Services, and Admin/Early Head Start buildings. Including but not limited to mowing, flower beds, tilling playgrounds, and weed control.
· General maintenance and upkeep of the Head Start Preschool, Emergency Services, and Admin/Early Head Start buildings. Including but not limited to painting, minor plumbing, electric, and carpentry repairs.
· Provide friendly and knowledgeable assistance as needed for staff.
· Regular safety checks of the facilities and grounds.
· Ensure facilities comply with Head Start Performance Standards and all other applicable regulations.
· Be familiar with developmentally appropriate practices for children ages 0 to 5.
· Work collaboratively with all staff to ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, licensing requirements, and agency policies.
· Adhere to Community Action Code of Ethics and confidentiality policy.
· All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Knowledge of building maintenance and cleaning procedures.
· Basic understanding of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and building systems.
· Valid driver's license.
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
· Problem solving skills.
· Hardworking, dependable, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
· Professionalism and discretion when handling confidential information.
· Commitment to the mission of Community Action and serving economically disadvantaged populations.
