Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Operating Room Nurse (Circulator) to join our surgical team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of perioperative nursing practices, demonstrate exceptional patient care skills, and have a strong background in managing complex surgical procedures. As Circulator, you will be responsible for coordinating patient care before, during, and after surgery, ensuring adherence to sterile techniques, and supporting surgical teams in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality care. Duties
- Prepare the operating room by ensuring all necessary equipment, supplies, and sterile instruments are available and properly arranged for each procedure.
- Monitor patient vital signs and overall condition throughout the surgical process, promptly addressing any changes or concerns.
- Assist surgeons and surgical team members by providing necessary instruments, supplies, and support during procedures while maintaining strict aseptic technique.
- Document all aspects of patient care accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner, including medication administration, intraoperative events, and post-operative instructions.
- Ensure compliance with infection control protocols and safety standards to prevent contamination or complications during surgeries.
- Educate patients about preoperative preparations and postoperative care instructions to facilitate smooth recovery processes.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and physicians to optimize patient outcomes across various specialties such as ophthalmology, cardiology, trauma medicine, or neurology.
- Assist with complex procedures involving catheterization, suturing, IV infusion management, or specialized techniques like botulinum toxin treatment when applicable.
Experience
Candidates MUST have at least 3 years experience as a Circulator. Proficiency in patient assessment and vital signs monitoring; knowledge of anesthesia support procedures; experience with pediatric patients; and working with individuals with disabilities or complex medical needs. Certification in BLS, ACLS and PALS is mandatory. Candidates should also possess excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate within multidisciplinary teams while maintaining a focus on patient safety and quality care standards aligned with CMS, AORN and QUAD A.
