Position Summary:
The Department of Orthopedic Surgery is seeking a full-time Student Clinical Research Trainee to join the Center for Clinical Research for a structured one-year clinical research training experience. This position is designed for individuals planning to pursue medical school, physician assistant or nurse practitioner education who are seeking meaningful, supervised and structured clinical research experience in an academic health system.
The Student Clinical Research Trainee will train on how to perform and support clinical research studies within the department while gaining hands-on exposure to patient-centered research, clinical workflows, regulatory processes, and scholarly activity for a maximum of one year. Under the direct supervision of experienced Research Coordinators, Research Managers, and physician investigators, the successful candidate will develop foundational skills in clinical research and academic medicine.
This role is especially well suited for current medical students taking a gap year and pre-med students taking a gap year before medical school who have a strong interest in orthopedic surgery, clinical investigation, and medicine. Candidates should possess basic clinical knowledge, familiarity with medical terminology, and a demonstrated interest in working with patients and healthcare teams in a professional and closely supervised environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree, or current completion of a degree, in biology, neuroscience, nursing, public health, psychology, health sciences, or a related field
Demonstrated interest in pursuing medical school or another health professional training pathway
Basic understanding of clinical or medical terminology and comfortable working in a healthcare or patient-facing environment
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced academic health system
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Office 365
Professionalism, dependability, flexibility, and strong critical thinking skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in clinical research, healthcare, scribing, patient interaction, or an academic health system setting
Experience with REDCap, Epic, or similar research and clinical data systems
Interest in orthopedics, surgery, translational research, or patient outcomes research
Current gap-year status or intention to apply to medical school or other health professional programs
Coursework in anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, or related clinical sciences
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $42,100.00-$42,100.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
