Senior Accountant
Location: USA – Maddison, WI or New York, NY
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (8-12 days per month in-office)
The salary range for this role is: $84,500-$144,000K
The Opportunity
Contribute to effective and efficient accounting and reporting procedures by analyzing complex accounting issues, collaborating with key stakeholders, providing analytics, implementing best practices and completing designated reporting, budgeting, planning and accounting functions to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
Your new role
Primary Responsibilities
- Complete and deliver designated financial reports and accounting procedures in a timely and accurate fashion by ensuring compliance with regulatory and company requirements
- Support team member development by reviewing and analyzing complex accounting issues, communicating feedback to team members, sharing knowledge, resolving questions and providing recommendations on best practices to support the achievement of business objectives
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying, developing and implementing process and system solutions, monitoring accounting procedures, proposing automation opportunities, analyzing results and researching discrepancies
- Support internal and external audit requests and inquiries by coordinating the completion and review of assigned audit files and identifying, understanding and implementing regulatory and operational changes to accounting policies, procedures and deliverables
- Facilitate efficient and effective team operations by reviewing complex accounting transactions, responding to inquiries, assisting with ad hoc requests, sharing knowledge and resources and recommending process improvements
- Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders by providing support and guidance for accounting inquiries, ensuring accurate and timely completion of accounting functions and communicating process changes and improvements

In addition, this position is responsible for:
- The organization's Treasury licenses and regulatory requirements
- Ongoing support for state compliance reporting, ensuring timely and accurate submissions to state regulatory authorities and helping the organization meet its statutory obligations
- The preparation and support of group consolidations contributing to the completeness and accuracy of financial reporting at the enterprise level
- Balance sheet reconciliation of remediation efforts, helping resolve aged reconciling items, improve control effectiveness, and enhance the quality of financial data used in reporting and decision making.
- Supporting key strategic finance initiatives, including the QCAP statutory investment refresh, which requires extensive coordination, technical accounting knowledge, and reporting expertise to ensure accurate statutory reporting and alignment with business objectives.
Required Education
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
Required Experience
- 4 years relevant experience

Preferred Experience
- Extensive accounting experience
- Statutory reporting experience
- Insurance industry background
Preferred Licenses/Certifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Preferred Knowledge
- Advanced working knowledge of Economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data
- In-depth working knowledge of products and concepts relating to the financial services industry, including financial instruments, financial management, insurance principles and cash and capital principles
- Applied working knowledge of finance technology processes, procedures, solutions and best practices
- Working knowledge of continuous improvement methodology and principles
Compensation Package: The salary range for this role is provided above. This is the national range for location(s) listed. The salary offer will be decided based on the role's complexity, its location, and the candidate’s professional background, including their education and experience. Beyond the base salary, regular full-time and part-time employees will also be eligible for QBE’s annual discretionary bonus plan based on business and individual performance.
