Chehaw Park & Zoo is accepting applications for the position of Maintenance Technician. This position is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping duties to ensure that park facilities, zoo infrastructure, and public spaces remain safe, functional, and well maintained. The successful candidate will be a dependable, team-oriented individual who takes pride in providing quality public service and supporting the Park's mission of conservation, education, and recreation for the citizens and visitors of our community.
JOB DUTIES
- Perform routine repairs on structures, equipment, machinery, and facilities; duties may require various skills including landscaping, carpentry, carpet/tile installation, electrical work, painting, plumbing, masonry, lock smithing, and auto repair
- Complete assigned work orders and preventative maintenance tasks, including inspections and parts replacement
- Retrieve supplies and materials from vendors, as assigned
- Maintain all facilities in an attractive, healthy, and safe manner
- Perform basic landscaping tasks, including operating mowers, edgers, and chain saws in the cutting of shrubs and small trees; move and replace soil, gravel, sand, and other rock and substrate
- Remove debris and waste from walkways, boardwalks, and other areas as needed
- Assist with preparation and staffing of special and interdepartmental events, as assigned
- Consistently and reliably report for all scheduled shifts without tardiness; show willingness to cover unscheduled shifts as needed; attend staff meetings and training sessions
- Adhere to all institution and department policies and procedures; maintain a high level of performance while upholding safety standards
- Support institution’s Vision, Mission, and Value statements; maintain a positive example in meeting the needs of fellow staff, volunteers, and guests
- As needed, coordinate the activities of community service workers, students, or volunteers
- Perform other duties, projects, or staff-development activities assigned by department supervisors
QUALIFICATIONS
- Maintain possession of a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation to/from work
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 1 year of experience in facility maintenance with basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, construction, and the proper use of mechanical equipment and hand tools; have the ability to build upon this knowledge and to adapt as necessary to facility needs
- Knowledge of safety regulations and precautions in the maintenance trades
- Ability to obtain a Certified Pool Operators Permit
- Ability to safely operate vehicles, motorized carts, lawn mowers, hand tools, and power tools
- Ability to work independently or within a team setting
- Proficiency in basic computer applications
- Must be able to lift 60 pounds and work outdoors in all weather conditions on a daily basis; must be able to tolerate strong odors, dust, hay, dander, and dampness; may be required to stand or sit for extended periods of time and/or to twist, bend, crouch, squat, climb, crawl, kneel, jump, swim, or carry objects for short distances; may be exposed to chemicals, fumes, odors, dust, moving mechanical parts, vehicles, and potentially dangerous animals; must be able to ascend and descend ladders, steps, and uneven terrain
- Maintain ability to pass drug and alcohol tests with acceptable results
