As a Construction Project Accountant (Billing & Cost Analysis), you'll work directly with Project Managers and company leadership to support major electrical and infrastructure projects across Michigan. About the Role:
The Construction Project Accountant (Billing & Cost Analysis) is responsible for managing and supporting the financial aspects of construction projects, including billing, cost analysis, and accounting functions. The ideal candidate will ensure timely and accurate invoicing, monitor accounts receivable, and collaborate closely with project managers to ensure financial accuracy. The role also requires an understanding of contract terms, compliance with billing requirements, the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, and advanced proficiency in Excel.
What You’ll Do:
- Prepare, review, and process monthly pay applications, progress billings, and invoices in accordance with contract terms, project schedules, and completion percentages.
- Analyze and resolve accounting issues to ensure accurate project reporting in compliance with contractual agreements and accounting standards.
- Reconcile job costs to confirm appropriate billing to owners and communicate over/under variances to the project team for corrective action.
- Monitor and follow up on accounts receivable, conduct audits on aged accounts, and coordinate resolution with project teams.
- Provide monthly billing accruals and perform regular reconciliation of A/R accounts in alignment with company standards.
- Collaborate with project managers to verify billing data, including change orders and approved costs.
- Track, analyze, and report on the financial status of assigned projects, identifying risks and discrepancies impacting monthly financials.
- Support and participate in progress meetings and cost review processes with project teams.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in billing, project accounting, or related finance functions.
- Solid understanding of construction contracts, progress billing, and retention processes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to build formulas and troubleshoot errors.
- Proven ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Highly organized with a strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Able to work independently while also thriving in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
- Flexible and adaptable; able to shift focus and responsibilities as needed.

- Union or construction industry experience is preferred.
