Role
The Building Support role serves as a flexible team member primarily responsible for providing high-quality substitute teaching coverage, ensuring continuity of instruction across classrooms. When coverage is not needed, this role supports student learning through targeted interventions, small group instruction, and classroom assistance aligned to school needs. This position is critical to maintaining instructional consistency and supporting scholar achievement across the building.
Essential Responsibilities
Instructional Support, Coverage & Continuity

Serve as the primary substitute teacher, delivering instruction aligned to lesson plans and maintaining continuity of learning in the absence of the classroom teacher

Establish a positive, achievement-oriented, and structured learning environment that upholds school-wide expectations for academics and character

Implement classroom management strategies that are consistent with school systems and expectations

When not assigned to substitute coverage, provide instructional support including:

Small group instruction

Targeted intervention aligned to scholar needs

One-on-one support

Support teachers in reinforcing key concepts and addressing learning gaps through data-informed instruction

Track and support student progress through informal assessments and collaboration with instructional staff as appropriate

Maintain accurate records as required (attendance, behavior, academic tracking when applicable)

Reinforce school-wide behavioral expectations and contribute to a strong culture of accountability
Flexible Classroom & School Support

Serve in classroom assistant capacities when enrollment or scholar needs require additional support

Support with daily school operations, including arrival, dismissal, transitions, and other assigned duties

Provide supervision and ensure the safety and well-being of scholars throughout the school day
Professional Responsibilities

Build strong relationships with scholars, staff, and families

Actively participate in professional development, team meetings, and school events

Seek and apply feedback to continuously improve performance and instructional practice

Support scholar recruitment efforts and school-wide initiatives as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the school
Education/Certification Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required (Education or related field preferred)
- State Teacher Certification preferred (or working toward certification)
Qualifications

1–3 years of teaching or instructional experience preferred (urban education experience a plus)

Strong instructional and classroom management skills

Ability to adapt quickly and effectively across grade levels and content areas

Experience supporting diverse learners through differentiated instruction or intervention

Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and educational technology platforms

Compensation
Compensation begins at $36,580 and increases based on years of experience and education.
