Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dependable Fiber Optic Technician to support fiber optic installation, maintenance, testing, and repair projects. This position is offered on a 1099 independent contractor basis and is ideal for a skilled technician who can work efficiently in field environments while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, splice, test, troubleshoot, and repair fiber optic cables.
- Perform fusion splicing and fiber termination according to project specifications.
- Conduct fiber testing using equipment such as OTDR, optical power meters, and visual fault locators (VFL).
- Read and interpret fiber maps, construction drawings, diagrams, and project specifications.
- Install and maintain fiber enclosures, splice cases, cabinets, handholes, and related components.
- Identify fiber faults, signal loss, damaged cables, and other network issues.
- Perform aerial and/or underground fiber work as required by the project.
- Maintain accurate records of fiber assignments, splice locations, test results, and completed work.
- Coordinate with project managers, construction crews, subcontractors, and other field personnel.
- Follow OSHA requirements, company safety procedures, and project-specific safety standards.
- Maintain tools, testing equipment, and assigned materials in good working condition.
- Travel between project locations as required.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Fiber Optic Technician, Fiber Splicer, or similar telecommunications field role.
- Hands-on experience with fiber optic installation, splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Familiarity with single-mode and multi-mode fiber.
- Ability to operate fusion splicers, OTDRs, power meters, and other fiber testing equipment.
- Ability to read fiber diagrams, prints, maps, and construction plans.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.
- Comfortable working outdoors and in varying weather and field conditions.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, climbing, and working in confined areas when required.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be required depending on the project.
- Fiber optic or telecommunications certifications are an advantage.
Pay: $1,200.00 - $2,000.00 per week
