Full Time Salon Apprentice
Circle Square Salon and Triangle Hair Studio are hiring a full-time salon apprentice! Our salons are located a block apart from each other in the heart of Richmond’s Fan District. The salon apprentice will work and take classes at both locations, creating a unique opportunity to connect with a wide variety of stylists and clientele.
Program Details
The program was started in 2011 with a simple dream: that education should be free and rooted in community. Our apprentices are valued members of our team, not just students. We celebrate curiosity, encourage questions, and focus on progress over perfection.
The apprenticeship is a specialized, in-house training program, which offers a clear, supportive, path to cosmetology licensure. The apprenticeship is a scholarship program and all classes and essential tools are free of charge. Apprentices work paid hours at the salon throughout the program, alongside unpaid class time.
Our curriculum includes foundational and advanced training in:
- Hair cutting & shaping
- Color theory & formulation
- Natural texture + curl care
- Modern dimensional & hand-painting color placement
- Smoothing treatments
- Professional development
Key Responsibilities
- Attend classes consistently, come ready to learn, and participate actively
- Collaborate effectively with team members while maintaining composure and focus in an energetic work environment
- Maintain an organized, clean, and professional workspace while demonstrating strong time management, initiative, and reliability in daily responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a service-focused role, such as a salon, spa, restaurant, retail, or other customer service work setting
- Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-focused environment
- Enthusiasm about curly, coily, and textured hair care. Genuine interest in growing skills and knowledge to offer intentional, high-quality services for textured hair clients.

Benefits and Pay
The salon apprentice position starts at $15/hr with additional benefits including: health and dental insurance, 401K, short term disability and charitable funds donation matching. Full time hours range between 35-40/hours per week. The hourly pay of the apprenticeship will increase as individuals progress through the program.
