Job Summary
EYL 365 Project is currently accepting applications for Elementary & Middle School STEAM Youth Educators for the 2026-2027 programming year. Our organization is seeking passionate and experienced STEAM Youth Educators who have a strong interest in Social Justice and Racial Equity Arts Education. A STEAM Youth Educator will provide in-school and/or after-school residency opportunities, generally between 9:30am - 2pm or 3pm-6pm for 1.5 to 2 hours (can be more hours depending on the client), at DCPS Ward 6, 7 and 8 partner schools and recreation centers. As part of this position, you will be responsible for providing and delivering advanced interactive and fun STEAM lessons to youth ages five to fourteen in a creative, structured and engaging environment. It will be necessary for the successful candidate to create and deliver lesson plans, lead STEAM exercises and projects, and mentor youth in the development of their STEAM skills.
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead engaging STEAM lessons
- Facilitate hands-on engineering, science, and technology projects.
- Create an inclusive, fun, and safe learning environment.
- Adapt lessons for students in kindergarten through middle school.
- Encourage teamwork, creativity, and innovation through project-based learning.
- Maintain classroom management while keeping students actively engaged.
- Communicate professionally with site staff and EYL 365 Project leadership.
Sample Activities
Examples of lessons include:
- Designing and testing bridges, towers, and other engineering structures.
- Building and programming introductory robotics projects.
- Creating simple electrical circuits and technology-based challenges.
- Conducting exciting science experiments involving chemistry, biology, physics, or environmental
science.
- Participating in STEM design competitions and collaborative engineering challenges.
Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching or facilitating STEAM/STEM, engineering, science,
technology, robotics, or related programming.
- Experience working with children in elementary and/or middle school settings.
- Strong classroom management and youth engagement skills.
- Ability to deliver highly interactive, hands-on instruction.
- Reliable, professional, and dependable.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or coursework in Education, Engineering, Science, Technology, or a related field.
- Experience teaching in after-school, summer camp, nonprofit, or community-based youth programs.
- Experience with robotics, coding, MakerSpace activities, or engineering design.
EYL 365 Project Teaching Artists are highly skilled artists and educators, committed to creating equitable learning spaces through collaborative teaching practices and social justice pedagogy. They report directly to the Program Director and are supported by EYL 365 Project Department Heads and Program Coordinators. They work closely with classroom teachers, school administrators, and teaching artists to positively impact school communities.
Pay: $40.00 - $60.00 per hour
