Duties
- Review and verify medical records, including ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding, and DRG classifications to ensure accurate billing submissions
- Prepare and submit healthcare claims using billing software and EMR/EHR systems, adhering to insurance guidelines and regulations
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies and communicate with insurance companies to resolve discrepancies
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of all billing activities, including medical records, claim status updates, and correspondence
- Stay current with health insurance policies, coding updates, and healthcare claims management procedures to ensure compliance
- Assist patients with billing inquiries by providing clear explanations of charges and payment options while delivering excellent customer service
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and administrative staff to ensure accurate entry of medical coding information and proper documentation
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing with a strong understanding of medical terminology, medical records, and healthcare claims management
- Proficiency in ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding, DRG classification systems, and medical coding standards
- Familiarity with billing software, EMR/EHR systems, and Microsoft Office applications for data entry and reporting
- Knowledge of health insurance policies, benefits verification, and medical collection procedures
- Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail for processing large volumes of claims accurately
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with insurance companies, healthcare providers, patients, and team members
- Ability to stay updated on industry regulations related to medical coding and billing practices
