Summary:
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate preparation, documentation, and reconciliation of the Bi-weekly payroll and the administration of the payroll system. The Payroll Specialist processes the bi-weekly payroll for the 4 entities for the Curalta network.
Essential Functions, Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Payroll Duties:
- Reviews the computation of pay and associated deductions for accuracy
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of city, state, provincial, local, & federal legislation affecting payroll
- Updates payroll records and records/tracks payroll changes as needed
- Performs basic reconciliation and auditing processes during each pay cycle
- Understands and follows applicable provisions for a compliant payroll
- Coordinates payroll processing with HR/Benefits team
- Responds to and resolves any inquiries regarding paychecks or payroll reporting
- Ensures payroll issues are escalated and resolved promptly
- Tracks and records updates to payroll records to ensure the correct outcome of the bi-weekly payroll process
- Prepares payroll related reports
- Coordinates with HR team, manager, Sun Life, and employee the LOA requests relating to payroll related items
- Tracking benefit premiums while one is on LOA
- Ensure timely communications with employees regarding missed premium payments
- Ensure missed premium payments are captured timely
- Coordinates with HR team, benefits vendor, employee regarding benefits enrollment or changes relating to payroll related items
- Tracking changes in benefits impacting premiums
- Coordinates with HR team regarding new hires and terminated employees related to pay changes
- Vacation payout
- Prorated payroll
- Adheres to the attendance policy
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Education & Experience:
- Associate's degree in finance or human resources preferred or related field and/or equivalent experience.
- At least three years’ experience with payroll required.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 suite
- Working understanding of payroll principles, practices, and procedures.

Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
