If you are a mold technician or toolroom specialist looking to escape the high-stress chaos of contract molders, unpredictable weekend overtime, and sweltering summer shop floors, this direct-hire position offers a major quality-of-life upgrade. Open due to a well-earned employee retirement, this seat is with an established plastics OEM that designs and manufactures its own proprietary product lines. Known for incredible employee longevity—with team members boasting 10 to 20+ years of tenure—they treat their technical team with immense professional respect.
In this dedicated bench-work role, you will work in a clean, modern, and fully air-conditioned toolroom. Because the company manufactures its own product lines rather than acting as a job shop, the daily pace is controlled, highly organized, and focused on quality craftsmanship rather than frantic part counts. Step into a stable, high-functioning environment supported by long-tenured, collaborative peers.
- Perform precision bench maintenance and close-tolerance repairs on high-precision plastic injection molds to maximize tool life.
- Disassemble complex multi-cavity tooling, clean plates, polish parting lines, and inspect cores, cavities, ejector pins, and bushings for wear or damage.
- Troubleshoot and repair multi-zone hot runner systems, valve gate sequences, thermocouple connections, and hydraulic core-pull cylinders.
- Utilize manual toolroom equipment—including surface grinders, vertical mills, lathes, and drill presses—to fit, machine, or modify secondary inserts, pins, and fixtures.
- Conduct bench testing for water jacket leaks, scale accumulation, and electrical continuity before releasing tools back to the production floor.
- Maintain precise PM records and spare parts inventory, while using overhead bridge cranes to safely move and split heavy bolster blocks.
- 1+ years of verifiable experience troubleshooting, repairing, and performing bench maintenance on plastic injection molds.
- Proven capability to independently operate standard manual toolroom machinery (mills, lathes, grinders) to fit or modify mold components.
- Strong diagnostic and analytical skills to trace hot runner electrical faults, identify root causes of part flash, and resolve parting-line defects.
- Stable, progressive employment history showing reliability, strong attendance, and multi-year tenures.
- Strong Plus: Prior experience with micro-laser welding, a formal tool and die apprenticeship, or a Toolmaker certification.
- Proximity to the facility, residing within a dependable 45-minute daily driving radius of the Waukesha County / Greater Milwaukee corridor.
