Experience Required: Minimum 5 years of trucking safety experience
We are seeking an experienced Safety Manager to join our growing trucking company. The ideal candidate must have at least 5 years of proven experience in transportation safety and a strong understanding of FMCSA and DOT regulations. This position is responsible for maintaining compliance, improving driver performance, reducing accidents, and promoting a strong safety culture throughout the company.
Responsibilities
- Ensure full compliance with all FMCSA, DOT, and state regulations.
- Monitor and manage Hours of Service (HOS) compliance using ELD systems.
- Review and investigate accidents, incidents, cargo claims, and safety violations.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor driver CSA scores and company safety performance.
- Maintain driver qualification (DQ) files and ensure all required documentation is current.
- Manage drug and alcohol compliance, including FMCSA Clearinghouse requirements.
- Conduct driver safety orientations and ongoing training.
- Perform coaching sessions with drivers based on safety events, camera footage, and telematics.
- Monitor speeding, hard braking, following distance, seat belt usage, distracted driving, and other unsafe behaviors.
- Review dash camera events and provide coaching when necessary.
- Ensure vehicle inspections, maintenance records, and repair documentation meet DOT requirements.
- Assist with DOT audits and maintain audit-ready records.
- Develop and implement company safety policies and procedures.
- Coordinate accident reporting with insurance companies and repair facilities.
- Track and report safety KPIs, accident trends, violations, and driver performance.
- Work closely with dispatch, maintenance, HR, and operations to improve overall fleet safety.
- Conduct random driver audits and terminal safety inspections.
- Stay current with changes in FMCSA regulations and industry best practices.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of trucking safety experience (required).
- Extensive knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, CSA, and OSHA regulations.
- Experience managing ELDs, HOS compliance, and electronic driver logs.
- Knowledge of Driver Qualification (DQ) Files, MVR reviews, PSP reports, and FMCSA Clearinghouse.
- Experience investigating preventable and non-preventable accidents.
- Strong understanding of DOT roadside inspections and violation prevention.
- Ability to analyse safety data and prepare reports.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and transportation management software.
- Experience with safety camera systems (Samsara, Lytx, Motive, Netradyne, etc.) is preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Russian or English/Spanish) is a plus.
