Family Cargo Bike Sales Specialist
Company: Whee!
Location: Brooklyn, NY (Park Slope and/or Red Hook)
Position Type: Part-Time (Weekend availability required)
Compensation: $17 – $22/hr, based on sales experience and community connection
About Whee!
At Whee!, we believe we'll have a better city if we can get more families on bikes. Biking improves physical and mental health, reduces air pollution, and—like our name suggests—it's just fun!
Based in Park Slope, Brooklyn, we are the neighborhood authority on premium family electric cargo bikes, focusing on expert retail sales and top-tier service. We match families with great cargo bike solutions (Urban Arrow, Aventon, Bunch Bike, and other brands coming soon) and keep them rolling safely for miles to come.
We're looking for a warm, knowledgeable, and community-minded salesperson to help local parents make the leap to car-free (or car-lite) urban living.
The Role
As a Family Cargo Bike Sales Specialist, you aren't just selling premium hardware—you are helping families unlock a whole new lifestyle.
For our customers, an e-cargo bike is a school-run machine, a grocery getter, and a weekend adventure vehicle rolled into one. You will guide parents through the process of choosing the perfect bike, explaining the nuances of front-loaders vs. long-tails, passenger setups, and safety features. Because families do their shopping when school is out, regular weekend availability is a must.
The Neighborhood Advantage:Are you an active part of a local PTA, school board, or neighborhood parent group? If you already have your finger on the pulse of local school communities, you’ll fit right in. We love team members who can act as a natural bridge between our shop and the local schoolyard.Key Responsibilities
- Consultative Sales: Guide parents through test rides and consultations, helping them select the right family cargo bike, passenger accessories, and safety gear for their specific family dynamics.
- Community Outreach: Represent whee! at local school events, block parties, or community gatherings to raise awareness about family biking.
- Customer Education: Demystify e-bike technology, battery care, and cargo bike handling for parents who might be nervous about riding with kids for the first time.
- Showroom Management: Keep the sales floor welcoming, organized, and stocked with the latest family-friendly accessories (helmets, rain covers, child seats).
- Weekend Operations: Own the Saturday and Sunday showroom experience, ensuring families have a smooth, unhurried, and fun test-ride experience.
Who You Are
- A Natural Connector: You are outgoing, empathetic, and patient. You love talking to parents, understanding their daily routines, and addressing their safety concerns without using confusing industry jargon.
- School & Community Connected: Bonus points if you are an active parent, volunteer, or staff member at a local Brooklyn school or daycare. You understand the daily school-run hustle because you live it or see it every day.
- Weekend Warrior: You are energized and ready to work weekends, which is prime time for families to shop and test-ride together.
- Safety & Family-First Mindset: You understand that when a family puts their kids on a bike, safety is the number one priority. You are thorough in explaining the protective features of our brands.
- E-Bike Advocate: You love e-cargo bikes and can speak authentically about how they transform NYC commutes, grocery trips, and weekend park runs.
Requirements
- 1+ years of experience in retail sales, customer service, or community organizing (experience in the bicycle industry is a plus, but passion for cargo bikes and a willingness to learn is what we care about most).
- Must be available to work weekends (Saturdays and/or Sundays).
- Strong communication skills and a warm, approachable demeanor.
- Ability to confidently maneuver and demonstrate heavy-duty e-cargo bikes (including front-loaders and long-tails) for test rides.
- Connections to local Park Slope/Brooklyn school communities or parent networks is highly preferred.
What We Offer
- The opportunity to be a foundational part of a growing, purpose-driven local business.
- Competitive hourly pay with opportunities for growth.
- Generous employee discounts on premium cycling gear, accessories, and maintenance.
