We are seeking a hands-on ITAD Operations & Compliance Specialist to support the technical processing, refurbishment, data sanitization, inventory management, and compliance systems that underpin our electronics recycling operations.
This role is well suited to someone with strong ITAD or electronics-refurbishment experience who wants to broaden their responsibility and progressively take ownership of compliance, quality, and continuous improvement.
Position summary
The ITAD Operations & Compliance Specialist will help maximize the value of incoming electronics while ensuring that devices are processed securely, accurately, and in accordance with WALTER’s operating procedures, R2v3 requirements, ISO management systems, and applicable environmental regulations.
The role combines hands-on technical work with documentation, inventory control, audit preparation, and process improvement.
Key responsibilities:
IT asset disposition and refurbishment
- Evaluate incoming electronics for reuse, refurbishment, resale, parts recovery, or recycling.
- Identify high-value devices and components.
- Diagnose, repair, and refurbish laptops, desktop computers, servers, smartphones, and tablets.
- Upgrade components such as RAM and SSDs when doing so improves resale value.
- Prepare equipment for resale in accordance with WALTER’s quality standards.
- Help improve refurbishment output and value recovery.
Secure data sanitization
- Perform data sanitization on all data-bearing devices in accordance with WALTER’s procedures and R2v3 requirements.
- Use approved data-erasure tools, including KillDisk, BlackBelt, and ZipErase.
- Maintain complete and accurate records for every device processed.
- Ensure proper chain-of-custody documentation.
- Escalate failed erasures, damaged drives, or other exceptions promptly.
Inventory and ERP management
- Maintain accurate inventory and serialized asset records.
- Track customer lots, devices, components, and processing outcomes.
- Reconcile physical inventory with ERP records.
- Support warehouse inventory counts and lot closeouts.
- Help ensure that all assets remain traceable throughout processing.
R2v3, ISO, and environmental compliance
- Support the maintenance of WALTER’s management systems, including:
- ISO 9001
- ISO 14001
- ISO 45001
- Maintain controlled documents, procedures, records, and audit evidence.
- Support R2v3 certification requirements and audit readiness.
- Maintain downstream-vendor compliance documentation.
- Track permits, renewals, reports, and filing deadlines.
- Support corrective actions, root-cause investigations, and continuous-improvement projects.
- Help monitor compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental requirements.
- Train operational staff on relevant procedures and compliance requirements.
Internal and external audits
- Help plan and conduct internal audits.
- Prepare documentation and evidence for external audits.
- Coordinate with auditors, certification bodies, compliance consultants, and downstream vendors.
- Document findings and support corrective-action plans.
- Maintain audit readiness throughout the year.
Technical and operational support
- Troubleshoot computer hardware and software issues.
- Support equipment setup and deployment.
- Assist with basic network-connectivity and user-support issues.
- Help improve technical workflows, documentation, and processing efficiency.
Customer and vendor support
- Communicate professionally with customers regarding IT assets, processing, data sanitization, and reporting.
- Support enterprise customers during audits or compliance reviews.
- Coordinate with downstream vendors and service providers.
- Respond to technical questions related to processed or refurbished equipment.
Required qualifications
- At least three years of experience in IT asset disposition, electronics recycling, computer refurbishment, computer repair, technical operations, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience diagnosing, repairing, or refurbishing laptops and desktop computers.
- Experience with secure data sanitization and data-bearing devices.
- Strong inventory, serialized-asset tracking, and documentation skills.
- Familiarity with R2v3, ISO management systems, or another audited quality or compliance framework.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate, audit-ready records.
- Ability to identify operational problems and contribute to practical solutions.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with warehouse, operations, compliance, and management teams.
Preferred qualifications
- Direct experience with R2v3-certified operations.
- Experience with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, or ISO 45001.
- Internal-auditor or root-cause-analysis experience.
- Knowledge of electronics-recycling regulations, hazardous-material requirements, or environmental compliance.
- Experience with ERP or inventory-management systems.
- Experience refurbishing servers, smartphones, or tablets.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, or SQL databases.
- Knowledge of NAID AAA or e-Stewards requirements.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
