Job Summary
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) serves as the senior executive responsible for the overall operational leadership, integration, and execution of Spectrum for Living's strategic priorities. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the COO serves as the CEO's principal operational partner and is entrusted with broad executive authority to translate organizational vision into measurable results while ensuring operational excellence across all areas of the organization.
The COO provides executive oversight of the organization's operational infrastructure, including facilities and maintenance, information technology, transportation and logistics, vendor and contract management, risk management, emergency preparedness, capital projects, organizational infrastructure, business operations, and other administrative functions. The position is responsible for creating efficient, scalable, and sustainable operational systems that support the delivery of exceptional services while maximizing organizational performance and financial stewardship.
In partnership with the President & CEO, the COO leads the implementation of the Strategic Plan, ensuring that organizational initiatives are effectively executed, performance expectations are achieved, and operational priorities remain aligned with Spectrum for Living's mission, values, and long-term vision. The COO develops organizational systems, performance metrics, accountability structures, and continuous quality improvement initiatives that promote operational excellence, innovation, and organizational growth.
The COO also provides executive leadership and oversight for the organization's Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Brand Management, and Development functions, ensuring that Spectrum for Living's public image, stakeholder engagement, community partnerships, and philanthropic strategies support the organization's strategic objectives and long-term sustainability.
As a transformational leader, the COO fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, operational discipline, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will possess exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, business acumen, sound judgment, and the ability to effectively lead complex organizational initiatives while building strong relationships with employees, vendors, government agencies, community partners, families, donors, and the Board of Trustees. The COO is expected to exercise the highest levels of integrity, professionalism, discretion, and executive presence while serving as a trusted advisor to the President & CEO and acting on behalf of the CEO when delegated.
Executive Leadership & Organizational Strategy
- Serve as the President & CEO's principal operational partner and trusted executive advisor, providing strategic counsel, objective analysis, and operational recommendations that support informed executive decision-making.
- Lead the implementation and execution of the organization's Strategic Plan by translating strategic priorities into measurable operational objectives, implementation plans, timelines, accountability structures, and performance outcomes.
- Participate as a member of the Executive Leadership Team in strategic planning, organizational development, executive decision-making, policy formation, enterprise risk management, and long-term business planning.
- Advise the President & CEO regarding operational performance, infrastructure needs, organizational capacity, emerging risks, regulatory changes, business opportunities, and strategic initiatives.
- Act on behalf of the President & CEO, when delegated, exercising executive authority while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
Strategic Execution & Organizational Performance
- Implements and Manges KPIs as assigned by the President and CEO
- Serve as the executive responsible for ensuring that strategic initiatives approved by the President & CEO are successfully implemented throughout the organization.
- Develop comprehensive implementation plans that clearly define objectives, milestones, timelines, resource requirements, accountability measures, performance indicators, and measurable outcomes.
- Monitor organizational progress toward strategic goals and provide regular executive reporting to the President & CEO regarding implementation status, operational performance, organizational risks, and recommended corrective actions.
- Hold executive leaders, directors, managers, and operational teams accountable for achieving established organizational goals, operational priorities, timelines, and performance expectations.
- Identify organizational barriers, operational inefficiencies, and resource constraints that may impede progress and implement timely solutions that maintain organizational momentum.
- Coordinate cross-functional collaboration among departments to ensure enterprise-wide initiatives are effectively integrated and aligned with organizational priorities.
- Lead organizational transformation initiatives that strengthen operational performance, improve service delivery, increase efficiency, and build organizational capacity.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.
- Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA), Healthcare Administration (MHA), Public Administration (MPA), Organizational Leadership, or a closely related field preferred.
- An MBA is strongly preferred.
Preferred Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM. In-office position only.

Pay: $160,000.00 - $220,000.00 per year
