Position Summary -Medical Devices
The Mechanical Equipment Engineer will design, develop, and implement manufacturing equipment used in the production of minimally invasive medical devices. Equipment will range from custom manual fixtures to semi-automated electromechanical systems incorporating workholding, sensing, motion control, and vision systems.
This individual will work closely with senior engineering staff and cross-functional teams to develop and sustain production equipment while driving innovative manufacturing capabilities. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong mechanical design experience and the ability to independently manage projects of moderate to high complexity.
Key Responsibilities - Medical Devices
- Design and build custom manufacturing equipment from concept through implementation.
- Develop mechanical design solutions ranging from simple fixtures to complex automation assemblies.
- Prototype, test, and refine designs using engineering analysis, simulation tools, and physical models.
- Ensure equipment designs meet functional, safety, ergonomic, validation, and documentation requirements.
- Create and manage project plans, schedules, budgets, and stakeholder communications.
- Develop equipment documentation, including: specifications, assembly instructions, maintenance procedures, and calibration procedures.
- Create and execute validation protocols including DQ, IQ, OQ, and PQ.
- Lead equipment design reviews throughout the development lifecycle.
- Provide technical support for production equipment and manufacturing operations.
- Manage external vendors, contractors, and system integrators supporting equipment projects.
- Support equipment duplication, expansion, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications - Medical Devices
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of experience designing and developing automated manufacturing equipment.
- Experience in medical device manufacturing or other regulated industries is preferred.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing manufacturing equipment.
- Experience creating equipment qualification, calibration, and preventive maintenance procedures.
