Overview
Join our specialty periodontal team as a Registered Dental Hygienist and play an important role in helping patients achieve and maintain long-term periodontal and implant health. In this rewarding clinical position, you will provide comprehensive periodontal maintenance, preventive care, patient education, and ongoing assessment for patients with a wide range of periodontal and implant needs.
You will work closely with our periodontists and clinical team to provide thorough, compassionate, and evidence-based care while creating a comfortable and positive experience for every patient. This position is ideal for a hygienist who values clinical excellence, patient education, teamwork, and the opportunity to expand their knowledge within a periodontal specialty practice.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive periodontal maintenance and preventive hygiene care for patients with a history of periodontal disease, dental implants, and complex restorative needs.
- Perform scaling and root planing, periodontal debridement, polishing, fluoride treatments, and other hygiene procedures as clinically indicated.
- Complete thorough periodontal assessments, including periodontal probing, recession measurements, mobility, bleeding, plaque levels, and other relevant clinical findings.
- Review patient medical and dental histories, medications, vital signs, and changes in health prior to treatment.
- Identify changes in periodontal or implant health and communicate findings with the periodontist for appropriate evaluation and treatment planning.
- Educate patients on periodontal disease, implant maintenance, home-care techniques, risk factors, and strategies for maintaining long-term oral health.
- Take high-quality dental radiographs while following proper positioning and radiation-safety protocols.
- Maintain complete and accurate clinical documentation using Dentrix Ascend and applicable digital imaging systems.
- Provide supportive periodontal therapy for patients who may alternate maintenance visits between our periodontal office and their general dentist.
- Maintain strict infection-control, sterilization, OSHA, and HIPAA standards to provide a safe and professional clinical environment.
- Collaborate with doctors, dental assistants, administrative team members, and referring dental offices to provide coordinated patient care.
Skills
- Strong clinical knowledge of periodontal disease, periodontal maintenance, scaling and root planing, and preventive dental care.
- Comfortable treating patients with moderate to advanced periodontal disease, dental implants, recession, bone loss, and other complex periodontal conditions.
- Proficiency with periodontal charting, dental radiographs, clinical documentation, and patient assessment.
- Experience with Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend, Dexis, or similar dental software and digital imaging systems is preferred.
- Strong understanding of dental anatomy, periodontal terminology, medical terminology, and oral-systemic health considerations.
- Excellent patient communication and education skills with the ability to explain periodontal conditions and treatment recommendations in an understandable and reassuring manner.
- Commitment to infection prevention, sterilization procedures, patient confidentiality, and HIPAA compliance.
- Ability to work collaboratively with periodontists and other members of an interdisciplinary dental team.
- Detail-oriented, dependable, and committed to providing a consistently high level of patient care.
- Local anesthesia certification and experience with additional periodontal hygiene technologies are preferred where applicable.

Pay: $43.00 - $48.00 per hour
