Schedule: Monday - Friday, 2:00PM - 6:00PM. A consistent, daily commitment for the full program schedule is required.

ABOUT THE ROLE
GINYC is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Sports & Recreation Specialist to foster a culture of healthy living in our middle and high school programming at our Bronx site. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic leader responsible for facilitating daily physical activity, including the Girls Inc. "Sporting Chance" curriculum. While sports and recreation is the primary specialty, the Specialist is a key member of the program team responsible for facilitating core Girls Inc. curricula, providing daily homework help, and supporting the overall success of the after-school environment.
The Sports & Recreation Specialist is responsible for delivering programming five days per week in a GINYC DYCD OST (Out of School Time) program. The GINYC after-school program fosters and develops youth's overall wellness. Youth take advantage of opportunities to grow, define personal goals, and embark on their own journeys. Through unique and intentional programs, youth have opportunities to explore and advance in all areas of their lives.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
● Serve as a well-rounded facilitator for the after-school program, seamlessly transitioning between specialized sports instruction, core Girls Inc. programming, and daily homework assistance.
● Lead a variety of sports, games, and fitness activities that promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and creating an inclusive, non-competitive environment.
● Facilitate Girls Inc. direct service programs with groups of 15-20 youth in grades 6 through 12.
● Position requires flexibility, creativity, organization, energy, and passion for inspiring youth to be strong, smart and bold.
● Create an inclusive environment that challenges gender stereotypes.
● Build strong relationships with youth, parents, school staff and community leaders.
● Complete administrative tasks such as daily attendance, reporting, and homework logs.
● Follow through on directives given by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
● Minimum of 2 years’ experience facilitating for high school and/or middle school youth.
● Strong understanding of physical education principles and experience leading group fitness or team activities.
● Background in partnering with schools, experiential learning and group facilitation with youth is a must.
● Excellent written and oral communication skills.
● Effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills that follow positive youth development principles.
● Ability to give and receive reliable, timely, and effective communication.
● High School Diploma required. Associate's Degree or some college degree preferred in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Recreation Management, or a related field.
● Experience working in single-sex, gender equity programs is preferred.
