Job Description: Primary Classroom Teacher (Kindergarten – 2nd Grade)

Position Summary
The Primary Classroom Teacher (Kindergarten–2nd Grade) is responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-based instruction that supports the academic, social-emotional, and developmental growth of young learners. The teacher creates a structured, engaging classroom environment and builds foundational skills in literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and behavior while contributing to the district’s continuous improvement efforts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum

Plan and deliver standards-based instruction aligned to Missouri Learning Standards and priority standards

Provide explicit, systematic instruction in foundational literacy (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension) and mathematics

Utilize developmentally appropriate instructional strategies tailored to early learners

Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students, including intervention and enrichment

Implement district-approved curriculum and instructional programs following a pacing plan that adjusts based on student needs

Integrate technology to support student learning
Collaborative Responsibilities & School Involvement

Participate in one or more school-based committees that support school improvement, student success, and district initiatives
-
Actively attends and is engaged in collaborative team structures (e.g., PLCs, DCI, MTSS, vertical teams, etc.) to review student data, monitor progress, and plan instruction to improve student outcomes

Attends staff meetings and District PD Mondays

Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement through shared responsibility for student growth and achievement

Fulfill assigned extra duties based on the operational needs of the school (e.g., supervision, events, activities, meetings)
Assessment & Data Use

Administer and analyze formative and summative assessments
-
Use data to guide instruction and identify student needs

Participate in MTSS and DCI processes, including interventions and progress monitoring consistently at your designated daily time

Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records with grades entered weekly

Kindergarten monitor timelines and assess with KEA’s
-
K-2 assess, identify, create, and monitor RSP’s. Keep up with timelines
Continuous Improvement

Participate in professional development aligned to district priorities and student needs
-
Utilize feedback from observations, coaching, and collaboration to improve instructional practices
-
Support implementation of district and building-level improvement goals, including DCI-aligned work as applicable
Classroom Environment & Management

Establish and maintain a structured, safe, and positive learning environment

Implement consistent classroom management aligned with district expectations and PBIS
-
Teach and reinforce routines, procedures, and social-emotional skills
-
Promote student engagement and independence appropriate to grade level
Communication & Collaboration
-
Maintain consistent, professional communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and behavior

Participate in parent-teacher or student-led conferences and school events
