All Well-Being Services (AWBS) is a CARF-accredited non-profit organization that has proudly served Southeast Michigan for over 70 years. AWBS offers comprehensive, person-centered services for individuals with mental illness, substance use disorders, and intellectual developmental disabilities. Our services include assessment and evaluation, individual and group therapy, case management, skill-building, recovery support and more. Our team is dedicated to empowering individuals through compassionate, high-quality care tailored to their unique needs that promotes independence, recovery, and well-being.
Position Overview
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides care and guidance to members by promoting a safe, healthy, and supportive environment. This role assists with daily living activities, teaches life skills, and encourages independence, self-esteem, and decision-making. DSPs also accompany members to community activities and appointments, build positive relationships, and ensure accurate documentation and compliance with agency standards. By working closely with families, supervisors, and team members, the DSP helps foster meaningful experiences and quality care for all members.
*We have openings at both our Detroit and Westland locations.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide a safe, healthy, and supportive environment for members.
· Assist members with daily living activities, including feeding, personal hygiene, and changing.
· Teach and reinforce life skills to promote independence and self-determination.
· Support members in building self-esteem, assertiveness, and decision-making skills.
· Accompany members on outings, appointments, and community activities to encourage social engagement.
· Build and maintain trusting, positive, and respectful relationships with members.
· Monitor member needs and behaviors, providing encouragement and guidance as appropriate.
· Maintain accurate documentation, records, and reports in compliance with agency and regulatory standards.
· Collaborate with team members, families, and supervisors to ensure quality care and support.
· Ensure adherence to health, safety, and agency policies at all times.
· Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· At least 1 year of experience working as a direct caregiver with the IDD population.
Physical Demands
· Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
· Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
· Ability to work for the duration of assigned shifts.
