Responsibilities
- Provide direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, and other needs in their homes and community settings.
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication administration, and household chores.
- Assist individuals with community participation.
- Help individuals achieve personal goals and increase independence
- Provide companionship and support in community settings
- Assist with transportation to appointments, activities, and community outings
- Implement behavior management strategies to promote positive behaviors and social skills development.
- Use effective communication skills, including American Sign Language when applicable, to facilitate understanding and connection.
- Collect data on client progress, behaviors, and service outcomes to support care planning and reporting requirements.
- Support clients in participating in community activities such as outings, appointments, and recreational events.
- Maintain accurate documentation of services provided and collaborate with team members to ensure comprehensive care.
Requirements
- Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of special education principles and behavioral health practices.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with clients and their families.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for community outings and home visits.
- Experience assisting with ADLs, caregiving tasks, and medication administration.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing client needs and schedules; experience in home & community care is a plus.
