Traffic Control Truck Hand
Reports to: Traffic Control Supervisor, Assistant Traffic Control Manager & Traffic Control Manager
Salary Range: $18 - $21/hour

Purpose
Control and direct the movement of the traveling public through construction work sites by using flag paddles and/or flag signals. This position warns each other and/or construction workers when approaching vehicles fail to heed signals to prevent accidents and injury to workers. This position also informs drivers of detour routes, expected delays, etc. Responsible for public safety. This position assists the Traffic Control Supervisor in setting up and taking down traffic control signs and setups and providing traffic control services. The goal of this position is to gain experience and knowledge to obtain a Traffic Control Supervisor certification and begin working as a Traffic Control Supervisor with Lucky Dog Contracting, Inc.
Education and Experience
- No formal educational credential
- Short-term on-the-job training
General Qualifications
Required:
- Must have a valid Driver’s license
- Must be between 21-75 years of age (Over 70 requires an acceptable annual letter of health from a registered doctor or their representative).
- Must download the Teletrac application on a smartphone and complete daily electronic DVIR.
- May not have more than five (5) minor violations in the past thirty-six (36) months.
- May not have more than one (1) at-fault accident In the past thirty-six (36) months.
Preferred:
- High School diploma or GED
- Must have reliable transportation to work
- Basic knowledge of the construction industry,
- Ability to determine the right kind of tool and equipment needed to do a job,
- Commitment to performing quality work while putting safety first,
- Possess a strong sense of personal responsibility and the ability to perform manual labor in all weather conditions.
- Must use a cell phone device to clock in and out for shifts and lunches.
- Great people skills, communication skills, and problem-solving skills.
- Obtain a Flagging card through Lucky Dog Contracting after hire, or maintain flagging certification if certification has already been obtained.
Working Conditions
This position could require evenings, nights, and some weekends. This position will be performed mainly outdoors and sometimes in inclement weather. This will require working with the city and meeting safety standards, ASTM specs, laws, and regulations.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift 50+ pounds, stand and kneel for long periods, and be physically active.

Tasks
- Guide or control vehicular or pedestrian traffic at such places as street and railroad crossings and construction sites.
- Monitor traffic flow to locate safe gaps through which pedestrians can cross streets.
- Performs traffic control and flagging activities as needed; follows safety rules and regulations on all work zones and flagging sites, including placing signs, barricades, traffic cones, and other warning devices; safely controlling vehicular, pedestrian, and construction traffic movements in a work area; duties may vary according to job assignment.
- Direct traffic movement or warn of hazards, using signs, flags, lanterns, and hand signals.
- Record license numbers of vehicles disregarding traffic signals, and report infractions to appropriate authorities.
- Assist the Traffic Control Supervisor in setting up and taking down traffic control setups.
- Required to operate pickups and flatbed trucks (not requiring a commercial driver’s license), and miscellaneous hand tools per all safety regulations and procedures; conducts routine equipment maintenance and daily equipment inspections according to standards.
