Position Summary: Plan and carry out an activity program, which will:
1) Encourage the residents to function at the highest level of independence possible
2) Motivate residents to participate in recreational and occupational activities to promote activity of mind and body
3) Actively work at promoting feeling of well being and worth in the residents
Duties:

Is directly responsible to the Activity Supervisor and LTCU Supervisor

Is responsible for originating, scheduling, and supervising supportive activities program under direct supervision of Supervisor

Confers periodically with the Supervisor analyzing individual needs and limitations

Encourage individual resident to participate in activities of a recreational, divisional, religious, intellectual and work type nature, if warranted by Supervisor

Plans and schedules the activity programs after discussing with administration. This should be done about one month in advance

Secure entertainment well in advance of the date needed and checks with the entertainers the day before they appear in the facility to be sure their activities are properly scheduled

Coordinates this activity program with the nursing volunteers and other groups, taking into account already established routines in order to fit the activity program into the facility’s overall pattern

Meets with nursing regularly concerning patient progress, nursing routines and the activity program

Invites and encourages patients to participate in each day’s program where appropriate
-
Assists in finding methods to motivate patients to take an interest in life and the community

Supervises the day’s program, taking care of any special attention shall be given to new patients in any group

Keep a record of attendance at activities and writes a monthly summary of each patient’s participation and attitude

With the approval of administration, recruits, screens orients and supervises volunteers

Procures and maintains supplies and equipment in a safe way
-
Sees that the activity area is in good order before and after each activity program session

Find the sources of salvageable materials and sees that these are used to the fullest extent possible in order to keep cost down

Assists with all of the above for Hospital Swingbed Patients

Qualifications: Previous experience as an activities aide preferred.
High school graduate.
CNA certificate
CPR certified
