We are seeking to hire a medical assistant who will be responsible for assisting with administrative duties at our facility. As a successful candidate, you will be responsible for obtaining patient records and test results, coordinating daily administrative tasks, preparing treatment rooms for examinations, and assisting our practitioners during medical procedures.
To be successful in this role, you will need to be certified from a medical assistant program and have at least one to two years of prior experience in a medical setting. A basic understanding of patient care and medical terminology.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists with direct patient care and related tasks; assists in obtaining patient histories, take vital signs, prepares charts, and assists with medical appointments as requested.
- Triages patients’ telephone calls.
- Acts as a liaison between clinical providers and the patient.
- Maintains the inventory of medicines and medical supplies as necessary.
- Educates and advises patients on specified medical issues within established parameters.
- Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Obtains Medication Prior Authorization as required by patient’s insurance company.
Minimum job requirements:
Medical Assistant Certification and at least 1 year of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities required:
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
- Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories.
- Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of the disease and to provide instruction proper care and treatment
- Ability to perform standard clinical procedures according to established protocols
- Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
- Knowledge of patient evaluation and triage procedures
- Ability to maintain provider calendars and schedule appointments.
- Knowledge of outpatient clinical administrative procedures.
- Knowledge of inventory management practices.
Conditions of employment:
- May be required to submit to the annual TB test.
- The candidate is encouraged to have a Hepatitis B vaccination.
- Must have current CPR Certification.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
- Work is performed in an interior medical/clinical environment. Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds with a considerable amount of standing and walking.
- The work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
- May be exposed to blood or blood-borne pathogens; will require OSHA training.
